"Locking" Assets on Surveyor?

I've been working on custom rail stations assembled from existing elements. To cite a specific example of the problem I'm posting about, I set down the platform with the tracks I want to use; next I put a concrete slab spline to stand in for an upper-deck pedestrian bridge over the tracks; I want to position escalators leading from the platform to this deck. The trouble I have is when I try to click on the escalator alone to tweak it into position. I click on it, but it is the platform under it that moves! Sometimes I can attack it from an angle such that it selects the escalator, but it's a pain in the neck to have to keep clicking around and hitting 'undo' before it works!

Is there a 'trick' to clicking on a specific object under those kinds of circumstances? Or is there a way to 'lock' the platform so clicking only selects the object I want to? (I have Trainz2009.)

Thanks for any suggestions!

For the life of me I can't remember if 09 has layers or not. If it does, create a new layer to place one lot of assets, lock it and place the over-lying assets on a second new layer. Once everything is positioned as you want it merge the new layers back into the main route layer - or leave them where they are it matters not - in fact I guarantee you will spot a minuscule misalignment exactly 3 seconds after you merge :)

If 09 doesn't have layers it is almost worth getting TS10 just for the frustration saved in situations like you describe...

No, 2009 doesn't have layers. I do a lot of professional graphics work, so I think in terms of stuff like Photoshop and Illustrator, where you can lock elements to make working around them easier...it's a different world with Trainz, I guess!

Some of us have encountered similar situations moving scenery objects around over UTM ojects. The general consensus seems to be that lowering your mouse 'sensitivity' may help.
