O.k. I'll give it a try a little later, I gotta get some sleep it's 4:05 AM here. I'll let you know how it goes. And I'm running Windows XP SP3. Thanks Shane for your help. -Robert-
Hi Shane, well I did what you said and I found that a Windows i386 file is completely
missing. (It's the SP3 file) So I,m wondering if I could copy that file from my other computer and install on my main computer,or will that cause me more issues than it's worth. Or another option I have is remove the hard drive, and hook it up as a 'slave drive on other computer, so I can backup ALL my files on my external hard drive. What do you think I should do? -Robert-
P.S. I would rather do option 1, if I could, it sure will save me some work.
Thanks John, for your imput. Good Night. -Robert-Robert,
I'm not sure you can copy that file because it will be in use by the other system. You could try though and see what happens. If anything try this in safe mode.
Shane should be coming online soon. It's about 6:00 in the UK and 1:00 here in the East Coast so I'm going to bed.

Nope. that one didn't work ether. I had this error saying that that it could not find the path, or the files were locked.I am here now - ended up having a bit of a sleep in this morning.
Did you have any luck with the SFC command as detailed above? If not, you may be able to copy an i386 folder over from another XP SP3 system into the root C drive then use the relevant Expand command mentioned previously.
Shane
Both of them Shane. just for the heck of it I transfered the sp3 file (copied) from my other computer to see if that would work, but it didn't there's still some files that I can transfer over, but there is a rick that it might bugger the computer up to whare I won't be able to boot it up. give me a few minuets, and I'll tell you what files are still missing. On which command? SFC or expand?
With XP systems, if it is an OEM copy, pressing F8 before the system boots into Windows may give access to a 'Repair your Computer' option which will access a special diagnostic mode where the Expand command can be used.

Aw Rats, man I gotta mess of 'em that's missing. Here's the list.....Sounds good to me - I can then advise on the best course of action.
Shane
Yessir, that's what I think too. Well thanks for all your help Shane I appreciate it very much. have a good one -Robert-:wave:By the looks of things, a windows reinstall is going to be needed, as at least two or three files in that list are critical for correct operation.
