Local hash folders or Original hash folders?

Fellow Trainzer
Hi all. As of now I'm doing a major backup of my hash files, and I was wondering in what folder is my routes are kept in ( along with all my reskins too) in the user data folder? Is it in the Original, or in the Local hash files? Thanks -Robert- Somehow I'v managed to get in to my N3V folder after most all of my rundll.exe files got screwed up by some nasty piece of fraudware. I have to do a compleat cleanout of my Tainz computer, load a clean install of my Windows XP in order to fix it. Bummer! Well anyway, I have another 180 CD-Rs to load this Chirstmas eve! Merry Chistmas.

Good Evening Steamrodder
You will need to keep both the 'original' and the 'local' folder if you wish to backup all content in Trainz. The local folder should contain all of your locally modified or created content (e.g. your routes, reskins, or any content that you've repaired errors on). However, I would recommend backing up both just in case there is content in the 'original' folder that you want.

Regards

Thanks Zec, I want to save the most important ones first, I have over 97,300 assets to save, and only 200 CD-R to save them on. I don't think that i'm going to save all of them, Bummer! -Robert-:'(

If you compress them into Zip files, you may be able to fit more onto a disc.

I recommend getting one of those external hard drives if you can. They can fit multiple backups without worry. 1TB Seagate GO-Flex have been selling for under $100.00 lately.

Online storage or an external drive? How much space are we talking about here?

It depends... We probably talking about 150GB of data so far. I have twice that, roughly, and I'm at 300GB of data. The assets have been getting bigger which makes calculating the needed space difficult now.

John

Butting in, but you if you have any space on the hard drive, partition it as a second drive and move the user data folder to the new partition, reinstall reformat if needed on your C drive. The new partition will be whatever the next drive letter is. Then you can reinstall Trainz, Import your local and original from the new partition, delete the added partition, and extend your newly fixed system drive to fill up the space. if you have anything like a Linux live CD assuming that Windows partitioning isn't working you could do the partitioning and probably the copying with that.

That's not good!!

Have you tried just opening the drive like a regular hard disk? I do that and don't bother to use backup software. Instead I just copy the data to the drive using Windows Explorer, or even better as it's faster, FastCopy when there's a ton of files to copy because of Windows and the stupid calculating how much stuff I'll be copying before I do it.

This program lets you set options to overwrite, skip, or even sync data.

It's free.

Shane, I can't even get in to or download anything on any of my browsers, like I said, all my rundll.exe files ether got highjacked, or is corrupted. And now I,v just discovered another problem. The content files that I'v already saved on the CD-R, all the config.text files turned into chump files, I'v never had that happend before. I'm getting a bad feeling about this one. I don't know if I want to trust any of my 'saved content' now.

Don't worry about the .chump files. This is an encoded version of the respective .txt files, and Content Manager will translate it correctly when re-imported using Import Content.

As for the rundll.exe issue, I've got to do some research on that one. Are you getting any specific errors that may help me find the solution?

The error just says that my rundll.exe has been highjacked, or is corrupted. I can't even get a screen shot for you, sorry 'bout that.

I have heard of that one - I do have a question for you though. Are you able to access Command Prompt?

Shane

P.S. Don't worry about the screenshot - the wording of the message is sufficient.

Yessir, with no luck, Cannot get into any of my maint. programs, I was hoping that I can do a system restore but can't even get that program started ether.

If you can access Command Prompt, there is a possible solution.

Run it as administrator if using Vista,7,or 8, then type the following command in then press Enter:

sfc /scannow

This will take a while to do though.

Otherwise, boot it into Safe Mode and try the following command in Command Prompt:

expand c:/i386/rundll32.ex_ C:/Windows/system32/rundll32.exe (32-bit Windows)
expand c:/i386/rundll32.ex_ C:/Windows/syswow64/rundll32.exe (64-bit Windows)
