I'm using Trainz on my 2009 MacBook laptop, and especially since upgrading to TS12, it really can't cut the mustard when it comes to framerates. I've got a couple of cases and power supplies (actually, even older computers, so that translates as "cases and power supplies":hehe:) laying around. I really NEED to build myself a decent Trainz machine. I'd be interested in seeing what other ideas people have.

Kamran's build isn't too bad. There has been some discussion here http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?99555-Do-I-really-need-the-recommended-specs about low cost solutions and the links to tomshardware for the comparisons. Basically I'd suggest i3 / i5 CPU ASUS motherboard, something like a Radeon HD 7870 LE, min of 6 gigs though you might need 8 depending on the motherboard. Watch out on the power supplies as the older onse have different connectors than the newer ones and aren't quite so efficient.

That Cooler Master tower is $150 at Tiger Direct so if you're on a limited budget that won't help. I'm still waiting for my new computer that I had built for me and the mid tower that was recommended for my setup was $60 and comes with 3 fans. You don't have to spend a lot of money to get a decent mid tower.

Its one thing to be on a limited budget and another thing to spend that entire budget in one splurge, everything new at once. If you buy a new case and transfer the innards of your old PC to the new case you can gradually upgrade and spread the cost over a period of time, as well as gaining experience in choosing components and finding faults, which will save you money over time. For instance DVD drives, PSU's and fans are among items which may well be reusable and save you money and they can be upgraded later as funds permit. I have also tried to stress in similar threads to this the value of buying used components - on Ebay a few days ago an Nvidia GTX 480 GPU (used) sold for £87 whereas the cheapest new one in the UK is £135.

i have mid tower case xigmatek utgard.its $70 case with 3 pre installed orange fans with white led .one at top is 170 mm and rest 2 are 120 mm.this case is excellent piece for its price with big side window panel and built in fan controller
