What an idiot he is. We should go back to the old wooden gates we had in the 60's. He would not of got very far after hitting one of those.

I wouldn't say that... We had wooden gates (both hand operated and wheel operated) in regular use on a suburban line in the north of Melbourne. These disappeared in the mid 90s... However, one crossing was closed a number of years prior (completely closed). The gates were left in position, and locked, however the road itself was removed over the track.

Someone accidentally went through the gates and promptly got stuck on the track. The car got stuck on the rails, and the wheels didn't have enough grip to actually get it over the track... Thankfully, the car wasn't hit by any trains...
