ktain productions wip route

so, after jacksonbarno created his own railroad company, I decided that I wanted to, also.

thus, the Kingston and Northbay railroad. it is a short line based somewhere in north America. I'm going to try to get permission to reskin some content that's not ben neals usra loco's... because everyone uses those. but I may try to do lilb's gs4, trainzitalia's fef-3 and challenger, and maybe some others. here are a few screenys of the actual k&n route:

please keep in mind, this the first time I've used the circling mouse technice, I'm really new at this.

farm area

I added this xing after I took the above screen.

Mountainous region (not very good, may delete, tell me what you think):

that's all for now. when I add more base boards, and build my desert scene, then I'll post more screens.

cheers

The "Big Fat Head", "Big Block Head", "Snap to Grid" tunnels need to go, there are hundreds of more suitatable tunnels, that look real ... the Rocky & Bullwinkle, Mount Craggy, area needs work, and smoothing, as even the Himalayan tectonic plates would not produce such pointy peaks

Got it! I think I might just delete that baseboard and change it to a grassy hilly area. I also started on a yard, which I need to finish. The route essentially travels between two towns, with a few stops in between. The yard is in one of the towns. I also want to do a small station terminal style thing.

I have no real plan, I just think it's kind of fun to build a sort of realistic route. Also which out of the tunnels you suggested is your favorite or the best one?

more work has been done!

so, yard is basically done & steam engine sheds are basically done. I'm a little worried about the quality of my track work tho... this yard is at the edge of the fictional city of North bay. here are some screens.

and another screen, this one is of the yard. a few more tracks, and the track work will be finished!

mountain region has been deleted, and in it's place will be a hilly grass area. still in the works, screens coming soon. meanwhile, here's my almost finished desert scene, all I need now are some good cactuses.

that's all for today guys. tell me what you think I should do, what should I change. \

also single track tunnels... which ones are good?

Really, I think you should start all over. T:ANE should be able to make it better than TS2004, in my opinion. I whipped this up in two minutes, my first route ever, and I know it sucks. But, just wanted to make a point of how much more effort you might try putting in it. I'm an old man trying it for the first time.

I did the same but i switched to ts12 instead of ts2009, simply because i needed more effort to put in it.

this is in tane... lol

anyway, more pix!

here is the desert scene. i really like how it came out. you can sort of see the untextured grassy hill are to. like I said, still in the works.

and here is the engine shed area. I added a coal drop.

also started stalking it up with engines.

more pix later today.

1. The "Straighten Track" tool may be of some use.

2. Try pressing and holding [ and ] when placing textures. It'll rotate them while they're placed so they don't look so uniform.

3. That texture in the last picture of Post #7 looks awfully pixelated and ugly. Lowering the scale of the texture might fix that.

4. The track you're using is pretty old. Might i suggest the High Detail Tracks from JR?

5. Go into options menu and go to "Surveyor Options". There you'll find a checkbox that says "Randomly Rotate New Objects". Use this when placing trees so they don't all have a rotation of 0.0 degrees, which can make them look repetitive.

6. For the terrain, you can use the "Plateau" tool to smoothen it out and make it look more realistic, especially in that mountainous region in Post #1.

Just my two cents for ya.

There are over 100 high resolution textures in TANE, although most start with TS09 or TS12 which give you an idea how long they have been around. Also try downloading from DLS firstsoloflight and motorbreath textures and use all textures at the smallest scale. Using these will help make your route look better.
cheers

6. Use the minimum setting for sensitivity and a large radius when creating hills or mountains and you can create a realistic looking terrain by gentle manipulation.

If this is your railroad, I'd hate to see what your real estate bill costed. So much wasted space.

Have you posted screenshots under a different name before ?

This is absolutely unique work and bears all the hallmarks of work shown on here not long ago.

Your frame rates must be fantastic with this minimalist technique.Look forward to seeing more of your coloured baseboards.

I bet it would run very well on a low-end tablet.
