I got the basic idea of kitbashing down for creating a NYC L-3a Mohawk. I want to make a model of a fully restored NYC L3a Mohawk 3001 who will begin its restoration this year by the Fort Wayne Historical Society the group that own Nickel Plate Road Berkshire 765. After all New York Central is one of my favorite railroads and would want something to represent a restored 3001.
As you can see it's not much, but I managed to add the elephant ear smoke deflectors to the front of the locomotive. However, I'm missing certain components like the Worthington 5 1/2 SA feedwater heater on the top of the boiler, the classification marker lights, the front part or chest piece you may call it to hide the stuff on the front of the locomotive, and the 69 in diameter Boxpot type driving wheels I had to use the K&L Trainz C&O 2765's driving wheels to make this as a substitute. I have blender on my laptop, but I have little to no experience in using it to create parts for the locomotive. I don't also have program to change the textures on the locomotive as I want a clean and sharp looking engine. Plus I'm trying to make the tender too, but since it's similar to a J3-a Hudson Tender I thought I could use that as a base and extend it.
