Ok, i decided to add a new seaport to my layout.
To get it as close to the real thing, i included Tiles.

I am very confused about one thing though.

What kind of switches to use?
Manual or remote controlled
If anybody knows what type they use in US Ports, please enlighten me;)

About the switches.

Nowadays, here in Belgium, all those "sea ports" switches are remotre controlled as shunters are.

Our Type 77 shunters locos are equiped to be remote controlled or "man controlled".
So, the automatic operations are done in the same time. As the passage of the train is planned, the switches automatically change their positions according to the passage of the train.

Hope that helps.

André.

Lookin' Good

I work at the port of Stockton in California and all our operations are manual, all switches are manually operated and are a mix of high-low stands and flop overs. OUr engines are also maunally controlled, the belt packs are considered unsafe for our type of operations at least in our company. Your port looks great but you're gonna want to flip those cranes around, the retractable portion goes over the water, so it can raise and lower over ships, just a pointer. Otherwise, it's looking awesome.

A quick question, how did you get those google earth images overlayed on the baseboard?

Stupid me, i should have flipped those cranes around BEFORE taking the shot:o

The "Googletiles" are made using TransDEM, a program by Geophil.
Actually quite simple when you get used to it.

The "Tiles" was a hot potato a few weeks back.
There were some discussion about some EULA issues, due to the release of some routes i have laying around, wich contains these tiles.
After a polite request to google, I am now allowed to share these "Images" in a route, in a non profitable way.
