Junction controllers

I am sure you folks have used or are using the magic junction controllers that allow you to change points for a route in a yard, so that all of them are on the right direction. You set the table of points and it works extremelly well. You do this on sessions. If you do it in a route, it does not save, and every new session you have to do it again. When you have zillion of these yellow boxes, it is too much to re-do. So, here comes the question: is there a copy command to tranpose the settings to other sessions of the same route? The same goes for the radius of action of the switches (points). You set these to a minimum radius but it stays on that session only, you make another session and you have to set everything again. Any takers? :(

That is what I have been doing until today. But.. One day I decide to install the new Windows. Back up everything into an external disk AND to a USB just in case. Re-install everything and upgrade to the last SP. Try the route and it opens in surveyor, both, map and session. But when I try the session in driver.. game freezes! Make a session from the map and it works.. but it has no settings for points nor junction controllers, and of course no consists (just one engine to make it a session). This is why I ask. Opening the session in CMP for error checking shows nothing, it is good. Interesting?.

have you deleted the assets tdx or cach files and let trainz rebuild them. Someone did say you may need to do this a couple of times as not all assets get listed first time.

You may say.. aha! that is the problem! Before was XP, today is W-7. But no, I have had this problem about a year ago always using XP. Just because I copied everything to a USB, upon re-installation I got the same problem, and I had to reset all my junction controllers and points radiuses. This is why I am asking for a way to copy these lists. Or something. Mind you: This could be a flaw of Trainz, as there are other parameters that don't copy down to sessions from Maps.

Assets TDX... I see this file, but I can't open it. back in the good old days we could delete the cache files and let the program rebuilt it. But now everything is hidden. And I thought that the rebuilt feature was doing something like this.. or not? Anyhow I am still open to suggestions from anywhere.

Just some random thoughts which may or may not be helpful........

Assets TDX... I see this file, but I can't open it.....

Could this be a W7 version of the "Administrator" problem in Vista?

.........as there are other parameters that don't copy down to sessions from Maps.

AFAIK nothing copies from Maps to Sessions (apart from the "link") as they both store their own data.

.....I have had this problem about a year ago always using XP. ....

....One day I decide to install the new Windows. ....Re-install everything and upgrade to the last SP......

If you had not had this problem a year ago I would have suspected a SP2 glitch.

Yes: I deleted the assets TDX, and let the thing to rebuilt and all that. No, it would not do it. One interesting thing is that in the log of events in the lower part of CMP, it says that there is an error trying to download this asset, as it is not in the database. But I see it and can manipulate in surveyor. Driver does not work. I started the thread mentioning about the junctions, but think, everything may be lost, all the industries configurations, AI commands, points configs and all that make a session. Enough to trash everything. All because I moved the session from one computer to another! The statement that sessions and routes are saved in different folders is true, but the settings on a route should pass and be saved, so the sessions will inherit it and if you want to change anything, you could edit it. Has any guru at Auran come to think on this? Maybe the key to the problem is the error mentioned above. But the asset could not be in the database because I imported it from the outside! You guys are great suggesting things, for what I am ethernally grateful, thank you.

One thing you could try before giving up is to open the config file of the old session and the new session and compare, maybe copy all the missing stuff to the new config and also copy the DAT file over.

I think that running Trainz with Adminstrator rights will help resolve part of the problem. The reason why I say this is that there are file access permissions associated with accounts. Even if you are accessing the same files on a different computer, your login name is associated only with that local computer, and not the one that originally wrote the files.

The system administrators get around this in a corporate LAN environment by using a domain or active services login. Instead of each local computer holding the login credentials, the domain server has them instead so that no matter which computer you login to, you won't ever be logging in locally. You will still have access to the files, but that's through an AD or domain account.

I'm sure you don't have a domain or AD at home, so this won't help. The work around for this is to give yourself administrator access to the programs and files. The administrator of the local computer has access and read-write capabilities on all files on the computer. In Windows 9x and even Windows 2001 Professional, this wasn't too much of a problem. This became a problem with XP if there were multiple logins on a computer, and now with the higher "security" of Vista and now W7, this can be a real issue.

So... In W7, just like Vista, you can have programs run with admin rights. Right mouse-button click on the short-cut. Choose Run as Administrator, and this should allow the program to read and write to the files and folders without being denied access. At the moment I am running Trainz with W7 and this is what I did automatically to ensure that the program had the access rights to its directories.

I am the only user on this computer and I don't have an administrator set-up, anyhow, I went to the icon and made sure I am running as an administrator. No change. Then I am playing with changing KUID's, cloning, deleting DAT files, and any combination that would make sense. I will post the results. I think I will know more about this than before even if I can't solve the problem.

The Administrator account always exists even if you are logged in as the only user. This account is used when you go into Safe Mode for repairs, need to run system utilities, and run some software packages.

If there's no change in what's going on, then unfortunately it sounds like something got trashed. When you upgraded to W7, did you do a fresh install, or an "in place" upgrade?

The fresh install but keeep your existing drive format method will move your data to a special folder called Windows.old.

After this you must reinstall all your applications, and then move your data to the appropriate folders (libraries) such as Documents, Pictures, etc. Their equivelents are My Documents, My Pictures, etc. under XP. Your program data such as your Local folder, I think, will still exist as well.

The other and not recommended upgrade, is the in-place upgrade. This is where the OS is replaced, file-by-file, but all your programs remain. To be honest, I have never had good results with this method. I have always had poor program performance, lost settings, etc., and usually ended up reinstalling all the applications anyway.

Keep poking around, and let us know what you find. You do have a backup of your Local folder I hope?

It's too bad we all don't have some kind of remote access software installed on our PCs. We could troubleshoot the Trainz settings and other computer problems for each other.

I did the remote assistance program and is the same. At this time I am considering that the Trainzoptions was set in a way when I was running and making the session. It is possible that the Trainzoptions is set now differently. Let's understand exactly what is happening: I can open the session to edit it in surveyor, but when I try to open it in driver, the bar starts to go up and down, some of the icons appear, and just before the image of the scene shows, it freezes and I have go control-alt-del to get to task manager (program stop running).. The bottom line here is that if I could have a way to save the settings of industries, points and others, I could tranport it to a new session and all I would have to do is populate it with consists. From the route, I can create a new session and it works perfectly, albeit with no settings from the session that does not work.. Again, I am going to play with the Trainzoptions and see what happens.
