@JCitron - Massive Route Building!

John, does it freeze (crashes) on you, too?

You're going to find this funny, but I have two routes: Marsz, of course, which is massive, and the Earth route "Inter-Urban Metro line"! The Metro line has over 1000 items, compare to Marsz which has 700 plus items, yet, Metro freezes (crashes)! I had to disable save and save manually routinely. (It saves in under 15 seconds, so I got lucky here) ... Has this happened to you, in that routes with mass amount of contents freezes more often then routes that are huge, but yet, has only a fair amount of contents?

Also, does same thing happens in TANE?

I know, sir, I'll find this out in about a month, but I am curious if you've encountered the same stutter issue in TANE!

Thanks, sir

BTW: I asked the Mod to change the titled of the thread last week ... I guess they're busy! LOL ....

Hey Ish, on my massive L&A route, done in TS12, I too get the dreaded freeze. At this point I am covering the mountains in hundreds of trees using the copy/paste feature and after a few placements the freeze comes and lasts anywhere from just a few seconds up to a few minutes. When you're on a roll it really kills your motivation to keep going .

I also get the freeze in TS2010, though it's more like 10 seconds. It almost always happens when moving to or from a top-down or nearly top-down view.

Ishie,

I have had the big freezes too and a white screen, but not a crash unless I had some corrupt content. That's another issue I've been contending with because I didn't know what was corrupted. I suspected some Pofig trees so I ended up reinstalling all and that seems (knock on wood/head/door/desk) to fix that issue. You might want to check your content, perhaps run a QDR on your database and see if that helps.

The white screen (not responding) is not a crash. That is just Trainz TS12 being busy while it's off playing with the database. This is due to poor program code which is not communicating with the right parts all the time so it forgets to tell the interface (TS12 screens) that it's doing something else and wait. We don't know this is occurring and try to click, move, hit keys, etc. only to get the not responding grey-out screen. If you leave things alone, the program will come back to life, so if you get a freeze, wait...

My routes have way more than that. One of them now has 5900 dependent assets on it with most being trees the last time I checked. This is as listed in CM and I'm not sure this is the list of everything because assets are only referenced by their location and reported as a dependency once. Another large route is probably about the same, but will shrink because I'm going to do some clean up and reworking again. You are lucky with your quick saves. I turned off that autosave way in the beginning. The timed lock up without a notice that the program is autosaving is poor and typical of what we've had to deal with! What gives!!! Hopefully TANE will be better.

Regarding saving in TANE. I haven't done much with it other than look for broken features. You might want to ask Harold (hminky) as he's been loading big routes and testing them.

I will concur and commiserate with you on this! That lost momentum is a bit frustrating, or disconcerting to say the least.

Good Morning Dave --

Oh, My God, sir ... you head it on target with "When you're on a roll it really kills your motivation to keep going"!!!!

Seriously, it was this one time that I worked on Marsz for an hour ... vast miles completed, with bases, and I forgot to save it, and then, like a bomb, trainz froze, and all of that work lost forever ... I left trainz and came back to it almost 9 months later ... that's how upset I got with trainz ... I could not sit in front of a pc and do anything with trainz! I finished one or two requests for trainz content that I promised, and then left trainz! It really kills your motivation, indeed! I have learned, tho, to manually save instead of the auto save!

Take care now!

Good Morning Brad,

Usually it happens to me when scrolling real fast, and then it freezes, and to be honest, sir, it scares the crap out of me because I think it froze, and sometime it does! --- N3V needs to do a better job fixing this in the background!

Take Care now!

Good Morning John --

Yes, those trees -- In my Inter-Urban Metro Line I've used them, back in the beginning, since the route was constructed like 5 years ago -- Since then I deleted all of them, as they have created many of the freezing issues, especially scrolling over them.

First, very insightful and informative post, especially discussing N3V poor coding, which is something they need to fix, and let's hope that happened with TANE; And if not, then we need to express our voices about it, because it really kills any motivation to move forward, when crashes suddenly freezes the sims; And like you said, since we don't know what's happening in the background we tend to start pressing any keys in our keyboard, etc ... it's frustrating.

Also, I'm too reworking on my Earth bound route, etc ... since it's all connected Marsz and Earth, etc etc ...L

And ike you, sir, I manually save now, which it's better -- Marsz takes a bit longer, a couple of minutes to save, tho, compare to Metro which is about 15+ seconds, and yet Metro has more contents, go figure! lol

Frank, you know him, with the long posts --- Well, Frank is a cool guy, and I read one of his posting regarding coding, a while back for N3V, etc ... so let's all hope N3V improves on this! Trainz, as far as I am aware, is the only sims game that freezes, when you're creating, and pouring your imagination into the game! :(

Take care, sir!
