Japanese DMV (Dual Mode Vehicle) Bus

It could work. I know near where I live, CSX has a number of pick-up truck that can go from road to rail for track inspection. In theory it works, now we just need to put it to practice.

Just a thought, someone should create something similar for Trainz. although you'd probably have to us a switch to invisible track in the road

I wouldn't put my hand on my heart but I think that where it says that it is the first such vehicle this may not be true. Wasn't there a railbus here in the 1930's that did this? I think it was in N. Ireland and had both rail and road wheels. I am very sure I have seen a picture of it years ago because it caught my eye. The one in the thread is of course modern but the concept exatly the same as the one I mention.

Re pick up trucks on rails

I live across the road from the BNSF main line in Idaho USA and frequently see BNSF pick up trucks on rails. I am unsure if they trigger the crossing gates or purposely override them - anyone know?

I have yet to see them transition from rail to road or vice-versa.

As an aside, I also see the little work train engines and tiny flat cars at times, and the funniest was a porta-potty strapped to a tiny flat car. I wish I had a pic of that.

There's some kind of trigger for the gates. I've seen this when the T goes on an inspection. The gates go down like there's a train ready to go by, except the only thing that went by was a Chevy pick-up!

Surprising that the Japanese with such a cred in techniques have taken so long to catch up with this one?!
