ITM to have its tracks torn for rail trail

This is old news for some of you, but the Indiana Transportation Museum in Noblesville, Indiana is in a bit of a struggle. That is, the museum may potentially be stripped of its tracks for a rail trail, thus slowly killing it. Although the museum only uses the line for two weeks in a year, it has garnered quite a bit of riders for many years, during these many years however, the museum has had a rather toxic relationship with Fishers and Noblesville, Indiana. To my knowledge Fishers tore down the station the museum used with no true replacement for it, forcing passengers to stand in a strip of grass. Plus, NKP 587 in a year or two would have her restoration finished. Besides a petition that is going on, the only thing we can do is that a rare part of history won't be destroyed.

I am very close to Noblesville and happen to work at a course very near. It's real pity, the only true railway station bit with history in close proximity to Indianapolic is unfortunately bordering coming to a close. Nobletucky's the only hope we have left :( .

I run many miles on the Ex-Monon Railroad trail daily, I can't help but wonder what compelled them to turn it into a trail, opposed to a preserved stretch.

They Better save it because without that track, NKP #587 and the rest of the equipment will be land locked (which will then put the restoration of the engine up for questioning) and the Indiana State Fair will not have its popular Fair Train, What will a new trail do to solve both of these questions, nothing but just make a bunch of local bike riders happy. ITM has made Noblesville IN a popular tourist destination and the fair train is a big money maker and without trains running this will will sure hurt them both. Please sign the petition ASAP. If this type of thing continues, bigger operations could be in jeopardy such as the EBT for example.

I think the EBT is a total gonner'
The USSUnited States is slated to be run aground for demolition in Somalia
The NY tourist line railroad is done for
No petition will postpone the inevitable

I signed all petitions

Sadly in the real world, romantic or nostalgic notions don't put hard cash up front. Without a detailed look at the books no-one can say for certain what the financial situation of this operation actually is. This looks to be a fairly lengthy line with all the attendant cost of maintenance and insurance. Most of the UK heritage railways in the UK long realised there is a "sweet spot" between providing an adequate and reasonably priced run for the punters, versus overstretching yourself.

At least a rail trail means the right of way is maintained for possible future restoration as a working railway. There are a few closed lines in the UK where re-opening is now proposed which is nigh on impossible due to the track bed being built on (Bedford to Cambridge for example).
