Is TRS2004 dying?

I have a TC3 version and a TRS2004 version of a van up on the DLS. Same skin but the TC3 has roughly 500 downloads the TRS2004 roughly 200.

Does this mean people have moved over? Nice if they have saves trying to keep track of what I've done in each version.

Thoughts?

Thanks John

It is a question that can only be asked by market research. No program dies if it is continually worked on. There are other questions like "do you want to support 04 or 09? Do you want to make everything backward compatiable?" etc, etc."

John-
Your given statistics show this might be true regarding TRS2004 , but it is possible that TRS2006 users , are downloading the more current version as well as TC3 users ?

Just a thought --- ,dave

The question is more " what is working ?" than " what is dying ?" .
I have 2004 and 2006 , but the sound of 2006 is so bad ( on 3 completely different build pc's ) that i mostly use 2004.

good choice ; i cant complain about TRS2004 + i have bumpmapping , alpha blending and alpha testing ( mask ) and texturecompressing

Hi John,

I don't think you can take this as a true guide. The fact is most of your creations are British as is the van in question. There could be a drop off in British items for 2004 but a strong following of 2004 items for other regions. I myself have moved away from British Rail and I am now concentrating on Australian and New Zealand stock, and do most things in 2004. Although having said that I still download some items that do not suit these areas if I particularly like them.

Cheers,

No you can't get to the TC3 part of the DLS without purchasing TC3. You maybe able to reach it through TRS2009. The TC3 versions do not work with TRS2006 or TRS2004.

I was very surprised by the numbers.

What's this Trainz, people run other regions than UK? I knew Trainz was flexible but this is amazing.

Yes I understand that TRS2004 does still have a strong following but what really surprised me was the ratio of the downloads. I expected around five TRS2004 downloads for each TC3 download. I hadn't expected the TC3 downloads numbers to be up so quickly.

Short answer: no

Long answer: Not unless TRSX is leaps and bounds above it. (09 is good, but it is pretty much the same game with small changes.)

Dead goat

From all I read here, it is the only version that is not! Every changes has its ups and downs, just how they weight against each other is what counts.

Remember that a lot of us oldies use 2004 but most newer members will not have that version so will be downloading the later versions of your models. Some may not even know they can download earlier versions of content.

Well kudos to you John for trying to use a documentable statistic to establish a viable trend in Trainz version use, but I think it can't be regarded as a cause and effect relationship until everyone tracks the downloading of their objects and offers up the same results. Even then the numbers are likely to be skewed for one reason or another.

It's certain that 2004 use will decrease over time, then 2006 use, then TC use, 2009 will surely have it's day in the sun. Maybe it will be ready by then.

Is TRS2004 dying? :'(

NEVER !!!! :)

Despite what the Auran hierarchy and other Trainzers may say.....:p

Cheerz. ex.

Pity I have a group of TRS2004 users who are having problems with my scripted wagons. Strange thing is they are having different problems and each is saying that the others' problems don't occur on their machine.

Of course it all works perfectly for me under TRS2009.

That banner is beautiful, Euphod.

Get back to work! TRS2009 needs you!

Seriously it's nice to see you're still around. In case you're interested the snowdrops are out in the garden here and we have just the last one or two piles of snow melting in the garden. The soil is still frozen solid though.

Mind you I suspect some devious person will now download the TRS2004 wagons a thousand times to upset the stats.

No, I got bored after 19 downloads John, and it's time for bed anyway.....:hehe:

Have a splendiferously creative weekend one and all....Enjoy your TRAINZ.....
