Is it just me?

I've always been able to download content really well. Today, however, it'll start out at lightning speed and gradually decrease spead until it is at 0.00 bps. If I stop, then start again, it starts out fast, then decreases even faster. If I do that too much, the CMP locks up and I lose everything.

Is there just suddenly something wrong with my computer, or does the Download Station act like this sometimes?

I wasn't sure whether to go to the Helpdesk or not--since for all I know this is just a regular behavior of the DS.

Thanks.

Without a FCT it does that. If I download I do it at night when it's quieter, it usually settles at 4 kbps. Turn screen off, go to bed and awaken to a downloaded route or whatever.

Well, that's good information to have. I thought I had to close it--I guess I can just leave it on and it will resurrect itself given time, though. Thanks!

You didn't say how quickly it went from lightning fast to dead slow, but if it happened in say 10 to 30 seconds, there could be another reason. A download actually starts at the very moment you click on the item. The download begins loading itself into memory until you select somewhere to store it. The longer you take to choose a destination, the more that gets stored in memory. Once you click on the destination, the stuff in memory as well as the remainder being downloaded is transferred to the chosen folder. The download speed you see on your screen may look impressive as the stuff in memory gets transferred, but once that is done, the correct download speed will be indicated. Thus it can easily go from 150kbs to 4kbs at almost the blink of an eye.
