Is anyone here home educated?

No ... But I tell my GF that I am housebroken ... I do dish's, can cook, clean and do the winders':hehe:

When I was a kid, our town had such awful winters, that were so snowy and icy ! We couldn't afford shoes, so we had to wrap our feet in barbed wire just to get traction. And we had to shovel our way 5 miles, to, and from, school ... and it was uphill both ways !

Yes, when suspended from school classes for being a bad lad!

Is there any particular reason as to why you are being Home Educated, hope5?

We used to get up in the morning half an hour before we went to bed. Have a cup of cold tea without milk or sugar ..or tea.:hehe:

As the title says is there any trainzers here that are home educated? :)

Home?
You were lucky to live in a home!

We used to live in one room, all twenty-six of us, no furniture; half the floor was missing, and we were all huddled together in one corner for fear of falling.

We used to dream of living in a corridor... There were 126 of us living in shoe box in middle of road....

Don't you mean middle of t'road? Hehe.

Not sure if it was the OP or not but this question was asked almost a year ago. Think it led on to a flamewar...

I'm curious, what, if anything, does your question have to do with Trainz?

Have fun,
Well I did mention trainzers in my first post so assuming i meant to say are there any trainzers who are or have been home educated has a bit of relevance to trainz but if im wrong then you have me there... sorry if the thread was to off topic.

Any special reason for asking? I am aware of some one who is doing the home schooling thing.

Thanks John
I was asking mainly to see if im alone in the matter.
btw that person might be me as i a little while back... had a bit of a fallout in the uk screenshot thread... and mentioned it in my defence.

Hi Hope 5 and Everybody.
I do not know if I fit into the category of person that your question is aimed at, but almost everything I have learned throughout my life I have taught myself. Due to a serious accident when I was four years old I did not start school until after my eighth birthday.

At 11 years old being so far behind all the others I failed my 11+ exam and left school in 1960 with no qualifications whatsoever but had the basic skills of reading and writing with nothing else. After having a few dead-end jobs I eventually moved into the road transport industry at the age of 18. First i worked as a warehouseman and from there eventually qualified as a heavy goods vehicle driver (my dream job at the time).

Being a member of the trade union I started to take advantage of their education courses to improve my writing skills and mathematics, all in my spare time. I progressed well both in tutored courses and home learning courses.

My big break came when I made some derogatory remarks regarding driver safety in a health and safety questionnaire that the company I worked for circulated to employees. I will never forget the day that I was called up to the office where the regional director was sitting and without raising his eyes from the papers he was reading stated “interested in health and safety then are we”

That was it, after a long conversation with him I was of on a four-week full-time health and safety education course which was where my self learning really paid off. I qualified with a NVQ4 and also got other qualifications in the following weeks. I then moved into various management positions up to the time I retired and I still do independent health and safety investigations and reports for them today.

I believe that the above proves the value of home education and lifelong learning. No one can ever get enough education whether it is formally in his/her early years or informally throughout their adult lives.

Hope this gives you some encouragement.
Bill

No Trainz connection and one person I know is in the US. Another was in the UK, they had a particular learning problem that wasn't diagnosed and was thought simply not to be paying attention. Home schooled for a period of time and showed great improvement then went back into the school system, different school in a special class and managed to get some GCSEs at 16.

There are advantages in home schooling and some drawbacks. Conventional schools have a syllabus to follow, home schooling can be a bit more flexible.

Cheerio John

Just as a passing general comment. I served in my city's Education Dept for 22 years as a School Liason Officer - second longest service (modern name for the Attendance Officers) and I was only aware of one or two educated at home in that time. It was so small here that it hardly registers.
