Installed TS2012, downloaded a TON of content from DLS and NO rolling stock in game

From my cold dead hands
Hello! This is my first post. I am a complete noob here and I am having difficulties. My main goal with this game is to just play out scenarios and sessions, not build or create anything. I am not creative at all and do not wish to be! :) LOL!

Anyway, I installed TS12 and also downloaded a huge amount of stuff from both the Content Manager as well as Jointed Rail, etc. My issue is this:

When trying to play the game, NONE of the rolling stock is visible and/or available in ANY of the routes, sessions, etc. Not even in Surveyor. Only the engines work. The lack of documentation for this game is appalling and I do not know how to get anything done here. All of my searches online have produced few useful results.

I am at a loss here and need help desperately. If someone could please walk me through the whole process of getting things to work, I'd be more than willing to pay them via PayPal for their time. PM me please

Some real-time interactive assistance would be best, but at this point I am willing to take any help I can get. :(

Thanks in advance!

Tom, your first newbe mistake was probably downloading too many assets at one time. Depending on what you downloaded, it may have errors or missing dependencies (parts) that prevent it from showing up in game. It can be a tedious process to get things sorted out, but it can be done with some patience. First of all you have TRAINZ 2012 whick lacks compatibility mode with assets built for older versions. Second you need to untick the yellow favorites button which should help some. Now go into CMP (Content Manager) , on the left side use the search function Location (local) and (faulty) and see what comes up. If any show as "open for edit" right click on that item and "commit" That should be enough for now.

Hey Tom, thanks for the response. I will try that now. I am thinking about installing on a second computer and starting from scratch again. I'll post results.

Just to amplify, there also is a "favorites" feature under the options menu when you are in your routes page. It's under Surveyor and by default only shows favorite content. Remove the check and you should see everything installed, even if it's faulty (in red.)

The good news is, the DLS Cleanup, which is the Auran-sanctioned program to upgrade all this content to work with newer versions of Trainz, is still moving and there is nowhere near as much faulty content as there was this time last year. So, even if you're not up to fixing content to get it to work, everything should work out.

You may also want to remove your email address and messenger info from your post before you get deluged with spam and nutcases start sending you messages. People can contact you via pm if needed.

TS12 has a 241 page manual included, try clicking the manual button or if that's not working ............ look in Extras/documentation.

Thanks for chipping in TS12 guys. I did not know about the manual in 2012. Is it anything like the 2006 manual which I thought was very good.

It's amazing just how many people don't see the manual option right in front of them every time they start Trainz. :hehe:
Our minds are on one thing only and thats "Get stuck in" :p
Welcome aboard Tom, you will find the best manual ever written is right here on this forum, you would be hard pressed to find something that could not be solved in here.

I read the manual, but it is lacking quite a bit of step-by-step info. I'm happy that things are finally working. :)
