Increasing Car Spawn on Roads?

Is there a way of increasing the number of vehicles spawned on roads? Some highways would work fine in my layouts, but they're rather sparse with traffic. I looked at some of the config files but can't see anyplace to up the spawn rate.

Thanks!

Add, or edit the existing, "carrate" tag in the road's config file - see the TrainzDev Wiki:

http://online.ts2009.com/mediaWiki/index.php5/Index_of_Tags_&_Containers

(tag) carrate
(goes in) config.txt
(applies to) splines
(Description) Defines traffic density on road (minimum seconds between each car generated). 0 = No traffic. Number must be greater than 3.

To get the max number of cars on a road simple add "carrate space out to make it look nice 4" to the config.

Revised post, the first one was screwed up in translation !

Thanks for replying. But it doesn't seem to be working. I tried editing "Boulevard with Markers" - the "carrate" was set to 55 but wasn't spawning any more cars than a "Boulevard with Centerline" that had a setting of 4. I upped it to 100 and no difference. I'm using the US region. Is it possible there is another setting somewhere that's overriding the "Carrate" setting?

Thanks!

Not sure if I'm right about this, but I got the impression from somewhere that 55 is the highest number, and the higher the number of carrate, the fewer the cars spawned. So a carrate of 55 spawns the fewest number of cars, and a lower number such as 4 spawns more cars. Counter-intuitive, or what? As I say, I'm not sure but you can try it out for nothing.

Good thought, but no joy either. That's what's making me think there's something in how the region is configured or something else that's at work here. Changing the numbers don't seem to have an effect.

I've tinkered with this years ago. The number is a MINIMUM seconds between each car generated. It doesn't mean cars will be generated AT that interval... but like NJCurudgeon stated... I didn't notice much difference either.

There is deffinitely something besides the carrate tag that determines spawing interval. Drop a carrate=4 spline on a blank board and traffic is bumper-to-bumper. Drop the same spline onto a busy route and the spawn rate drops right off. This variation is sort of covered by the tag description which does say that the rate is the minimum interval.

Other influences might be the graphics load and/or whatever else the cpu is bogged down with, but it's one of many inner workings that although it would be good for route-builders and content creators to know EXACTLY what is going on it is all shrouded in mystery...
