Improved Sound

Get over it
Went from a 15" CRT monitor to a wide screen 20" monitor and my sound has improved to the point that I now here sounds that I didn't know existed. I'm running 06 and I had heard the sounds before in 04 but I thought it was a problem with 06 but now I'm not sure.

I had a computer built for me but only got the built in sound, no sound card, but it really has improved my enjoyment of the game. I'm guessing that the built in sound on my old Dell wasn't as good as the built in sound that I have now. It's Realtek HD Audio but it's built in. Anyone have some thoughts on this?

Are you using the speakers built into the monitor? If so, then most new ones, especially if you can't see any speakers, are the same as you find in laptops.

I had realtek HD Audio for a long time before I upgraded to a Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi. It made a big difference in sound quality when I upgraded, but it also moade a difference in other areas as the processor no longer had to deal with processing the sounds on top of everything else.

However, I would not recommend upgrading unless your speakers are of good enough quality to use the features of the sound card. I personally have a set of Logitech Z4 2.1 speakers that retailed for about £50 when I bought them, and they are so much better than the old speakers I had. You will hear more sounds that you never realised existed if you listen to music, and trainz is then only limited by the sound bugs in it, which are much better anyway for me at least, although some others have not had so much luck.

Captain Collins, I forgot to mention that my new monitor does not have speakers. That is why I'm surprised that my sound has improved. I'm assuming that Realtek is just better than what Dell puts in their computers. I'm just going to enjoy it.

What speakers are you using then?

The speakers that came with my old Dell. What I'm trying to say is that I have on board sound (mother board) and not a dedicated sound card but my sound sure has improved. I have a Realtek icon at the bottom right hand on my screen so there again I'm assuming I have Realtek HD Audio Manager installed on my mother board.
