Surveyor 2.0 tutorial?

Does anyone know of a more up to date UT video series on how to use 2.0? I am using a 2 year old route build as a guide (I tried approach medium but too much was "I don't know what that does") but it isn't 100% helpful and it wasn't built as a guide, in fact the author states that he basically thinks 2.0 sucks. Then I found Trz22 routes built months ago and not surprising, they use the old Trz19 surveyor. I only purchased 22 for the supposed improved builder but just moving an object up and down or picking the height of an object, for me, is a 10 minute project.

I am finding that what took one mouse click to do something in classic Surveyor can now take up to 3 or 4 clicks. That is not progress in my opinion.

Go to the N3V Games YouTube channel and look under the Live menu for many videos done as live streaming sessions. Approach Medium appears to have changed his earlier opinion after he became N3V's Social Media manager. There are also streams done by the staff of N3V which are labeled as Training Dayz which have segments on route building as well.

After dipping my toes in S2.0 when it first came out I've now gone full on using it in my new master-piece. Everything seems so much easier. Moving things with the Free Move Tool or the Fine Adjustment Tool. For extra fine control, just type in a value in the Tools Options. Replacing a single selected spline or more is a simple click in the Spline Details. Selecting multiple objects to change them all at the same time. Checking a track spline for continuity by seeing if the green highlight stops unexpectedly. That alone has saved countless hours in searching for disconnected tracks and other splines that should be connected. Also love the ability to move spline points horizontally parallel to the direction of the spline, i.e. to extend a spline without changing any other parameter. And likewise moving a whole set of track horizontally by just a bit while keeping the relationships between the parts constant.

Will do, thanks. I have tried the wiki before but it was a bit lacking, maybe it has been added too since I first purchased 22. (Just looked, MUCH better! Thanks).

Surveyor Classic is what i will keep using from here on out because of how complicated the Surveyor 2.0 is compared to Classic.. S2.0 Takes longer to do stuff in it as mentioned before by others. I have seen almost 10 mouse clicks to do something that took only 1 click with classic... the S2.0 is a complete joke if you ask me... S2.0 is still a buggy mess compared to Classic Surveyor 1.0...
only my 2 cents by the way! all i can say is use what works best for you and stick with it

What stuff takes longer? Details please.

A joke? Well everyone has there own sense of humour
So maybe stick to S1.0 while the rest of use learn and use S2.0. Right now you still have the option to go back and forth but I'm sure that one day that will no longer be the case

I have asked some of the "others" for specific examples of this but so far no response.

Is it worthwhile asking you to give the details of those 10 mouse clicks in Surveyor 2.0 (lets call it S20 to conserve electrons and bandwidth) that replaced the 1 click in classic?

S20 is a learning curve, and a steep one if you are moving from decades of using Classic like I did. It took me about a year to make the complete switch but now I very rarely go back to using Classic for anything. My workflow has increased as has my enjoyment. My level of frustration has decreased.

Despite your claims about S20 requiring more "mouse clicks" than Classic, without any supporting evidence or examples, I have found the opposite. Some examples:
  • a single double-click on a spline segment in S20 will select the entire spline up to the endpoints and/or junctions in both directions. The entire spine can then be moved, deleted, replaced, rotated, cloned or turned into a Scrapbook element with just one or two more mouse clicks
  • multiple objects of different types can be selected in S20 and then have identical operations (e.g. rotation, movement, height change, cloning) performed on them all with just a few mouse clicks. In classic it would take multiple clicks for each object.
  • the Scrapbook option in S20 has been a revelation. The ability to paste and even paint the contents of an asset clipboard has saved me time and effort and has made the creation of a forest with just a few brush strokes, for example, an actual pleasure 😄 - and then add in all the variations and controls that you can apply when using the Scrapbook.
Take a look at the documentation on the wiki - at How_to_Use_S20_Tools and How_to_Use_S20_Palettes - both written during my year climbing the learning curve.

This is why I want to learn S20, from those who know how to use it is seems like an improvement, but trying to learn it on own is a nightmare. It is more complicated, there are more "shft+ or ctl+" etc but I am sure once learned will not be forgotten. I have copied the key stroke shortcuts and put them on my desktop and am going to do a practice route to learn. I hope it works out. I know yesterday, before I posted this, I couldn't even get a chair for a model railroad build to sit on the floor or rotate without zooming way in to see the xyz arc, and if you are old like me...well it is a bit of a chore.

One thing I wish, and maybe it is in S20, is enter an angle for an object instead of trying to slowly rotate it, so for example I want a wall to sit at 30 degree, instead of rotating and hoping for close, like in S10, I can just enter "30", can that be done?

Just started the wiki so excuse the question if it is covered.

Yes, that would be a useful control to add to the mix. There is already an Angle control in the Tool Options Palette but that only applies when adding gradients to the ground height.

Stick with it. I found that the first month or two was the steepest on the learning curve but as I grew more familiar with the tools, palettes and options, it all became much easier and it is now "second nature" to me. So much so that I have forgotten how to use some of the Classic tools and options.

Hey, S20 DOES have object rotation setting by entering a number, if you go into the INFO panel, then click on the arrow beside ROT so it points down a new drop menu shows, in it is R, P, Y. The Y changes compass angle, and R and P change the rotation on axis.

Tried inserting picture but it kept giving me an error.
