ideal computer

I'm not very good with hardware and I just purchased Trainz 12... Now, I thought surly my computer would run it, being not even a year old, but alas, I was wrong. I have the stats on the back of the box, but can someone point me in the direction of a relatively inexpensive computer that will run this program? What would the ideal computer be?

no point having 2 comps.

Seeing as you have a nearly new comp, post the specs including PSU and people will point you in the general right direction.

If you give us the details of what you have we maybe able to identify components that could be upgraded inexpensively to give reasonable performance.

Thanks John

G'day,

Ask Nasa if you can borrow theirs:hehe:.

Have a good one,

@emersonrailroad-

First, you're going to have to register your Trainz using the Serial Number link above or in your Auran Profile. That said, follow the advice about listing your hardware specs including power supply wattage. If you don't know and have an OEM (Dell, HP, etc.), the model number should suffice though the more details, the better. Upgrading a part isn't necessarily expensive but it's also not necessarily straightforward either and there may be things you can do to alleviate bottlenecks and give your framerates a bump without spending any money.

Thanks for the responses fellas.
I have a dell, Model: Inspiron N7010
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU P6000 @ 1.87 GHz (I see this is too slow)
Ram: 3.0GB
System type: 64-bit
OS: Windows 7

This computer is a lap top. A friend of mine told me there was no way to upgrade a laptop of this kind to run this program, but I want to make sure that is true before I go out of my way to get another computer. $$$ is an issue.

Someone asked me to define cheap... I'd say definitely under $1000 and hopefully under $700. Anything more and I'll have to wait a while.

Lap tops are optimized for power consumption ie running off the battery. Desktops are more suitable for Trainz you should be able to get something reasonable for under $1,000 possibly even $700.

Having said that it is a bit specialised so I'd ask for suggestions here in the forum with the target $ value.

My opinion, in about 3 or 4 years, laptops will be able to handle the demands of trainz. Today, I am not sure how trainz handles on a gaming laptop. I run trainz 2009, trainz railways (classics and 2006sp1), and trainz 2006 on my 2009 Dell Inspiron 1545. Cost a bit over $1,000. I think trainz 2009 runs the best. I wonder how trainz 2010 or 12 would handle on mine. I usually get a maximum of 20-30fps on most routes. Trainz 12 probably won't since the laptop has integrated graphics.

TS12 should require less resources than TS2009/10. It's the open ended content that kills performance and as hardware gets faster so the content creators add more detail, polys bigger textures etc.

A desktop will always offer better performance than a lap top of the same price. You pay a premium on a lap top for lower power parts.

Oh no, I mean, sooner or later, laptops in 3 or 4 years could probably have the the performance of today's desktops. But desktops should always be more powerful than a laptop. And a laptop should always be more powerful than a netbook.
