I want to model Thomas and Friends in Trainz

Hi, I'm wanting to download a version of Trainz so I can make my own recreation of several places from the Island of Sodor in their. I want to be able to create my own visions of locations but still be able to somehow have the ability to put Thomas, Percy and the other engines in my simulations without having to go through the fuss of finding their make in Trainz, manually making their skins from scratch etc. Long story short I want freedom to create what locations I want but without any trouble in making engines to populate it. What version of Trainz should I download to do this? I would prefer a free version but I don't mind spending, say, 30-40 NZD (approx 25 USD or 20 GBP), if that's how much the ideal version would cost to download or if spending that amount would get a vastly superior modelling program. I'm new here so sorry if I've posted in the wrong place, please help :)

Welcome to the forum! You can get any Trainz version for a reasonable price, boxed or download. You can download Thomas locos if you search for them, really works my friend. There is a mode on the main menu where you can create routes from Sodor and place trains on it called "Surveyor". But the fun is just beginning from there! Happy Trainzing!

Wait what? Guys I'm a completely different person, I don't know what that LogyBear guy's been up to but what would be the point in making a new account if all I'm doing is asking questions?

Wow guys, lets try to nice to new members, even if it looks like they are a copy of another member. A simple helpdesk ticket or a reported post would allow the administrative team to investigate and take action if needed without scaring a potential contributor to the community away.

Logie, there is a fair bit of existing TTTE content, you may like to search for SodorIsland3D or SI3D. With modelling programs they're either open-source (free) or very expensive (3Ds Max). Any recent version of Trainz should be enough for your needs but I suggest at least TS10 as earlier versions are near or past their end-of-life support dates.

I currently run Trainz 2012. My grandson (who is 6) is a fan of Thomas and friends and so the inevitable happened a long time ago for me to give him access to what he wanted. Thomas and friends can be downloaded from http://si3d2009.jimdo.com/ They are designed mainly for Trainz 2010 but will work on 2012.

Hee, hee, welcome aboard, LB! Kind of a rough arrival! Never mind, you're here now! I KNOW you're going to find at least one friend here with similar ideas!

Cheers....Rick

Rick here is right. Im not a fan of thomas and friends. But you have the forums of SI3D and as for here. Well......seek out a user by the name of Zeldaboy14. Never thought I'd say that lol. Have a good time here.

welcome! I'm chris. I see you've met trainman and a few others.

well, depending on what version of trainz you get, Sodor Island 3D and SI3D 2009 are the place to look. now, like nicky said, Trainz 2009 and under (TS06, 04, UTC, Orig. Trainz) are way too old for use today. TS10 and or TS12 are your best bet until Trainz: A New Era comes out. SI3D also have a full route of the Island available for free, like all of their downloads. The route is currently a WIP, so keep a look out for updates.

Well, hope this helps, and again, Welcome to the Forums!

Right Here trainman7616! SI3D is the best place for content like that. Or try Zeldaboy14 Production Works. I have some Thomas stuff that I create.
