I need your help

jointed freaking rails
To make a long story short, I have some new models I'd like to build that I think will prove very popular. I want them myself, and a lot of you have posted that you'd enjoy them as well. But, I've become very lazy with my "finish one before you start one" policy. I have a good bit of stuff sitting as completed meshes, just waiting on textures and final setup, but before I even think about those, I'd like to finish up what's even more complete than that.

Each of these models needs something different. In the case of the E33, I need to set up animations and finish modeling the pantograph. The 2-8-0 is pretty clearly unfinished. The H20-44 needs sounds; if you know of an operating FM prime mover, we should talk. And finally, the U18B just needs some tweaks to the bake and some smaller details. The point is, I'd like to get most or all of these released in the near future. And any of them will be a relatively quick project, as soon as I get back to working on it. It doesn't matter to me which one I do when, so I figured I'd ask if anybody had a preference. If not, I'll just pick one and go with it, no problem.

(Seriously, if you know of an operating FM, send me a message.)

I say go with the steam locomotive, simply because there is so much diesel out there, but if not for sure go with the H20-44

I'd go with the U18B. It's the least troublesome of the bunch right now.

Besides, early GE's are scarce, and I still would like a U36B one day.

LOL! and I just finished a U18B! Guess I'll just keep it for myself now.

Your models look way better than mine anyhow.

Great work,

Dave Snow

I'll vote for the E33 (hopefully also available in a Conrail skin in the future) and the 2-8-0.

Thanks in advance for these nice looking models!

Nooooo, you need to release the U18B, for a couple of reasons: 1) If you keep up your recent trends it's pretty much guaranteed to have a custom interior. 2) If we make skins, it's got a significantly better chance of getting released. 3) Everyone loves davesnow content. 4) You beat yourself up over the quality a bit too much, the quality on your units is pretty darn good. 5) You're always filling gaps with your creations, and I'd like to see this gap filled too.

Just my little list of excuses. ;)

I like either the U18B or the FM as far as the project goes. I don't know of any operating FM primemovers, but I'm ready to hunt one down if I can help. I think the RR museum near me has a FM actually, not sure if she still runs or not. Also, not sure if you noticed or not, but the numbers on the U18B's numberboards are a bit high.

Okey Doke. Yes, mine has a custom interior, but it ain't fancy! LOL!

I'll just stick mine on the DLS.

Cheers, and thanks for your vote of confidence!,

Dave

Fm Or steam First!!!

I think the North Carolina transportation museum has a working FM locomotive

While I do like me some SCL U18Bs, I'd lean toward the P&WV H20-44.

For engine sounds, I am only aware of operating 6 cylinder 38Ds in locomotive settings.* There are quite a few of them in the many H12-44s preserved around the country. Regionally relevant for you would be the Rochester and Genesee Valley Railroad Museum up in New York, which operates former Army 1843. If you want a running 10 cylinder 38D specifically, I actually know of one. The USS Blueback at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) is equipped with the 10 cylinder variant. When I visited it a few years back, one of the powerplants was running as a demonstration. I wonder what it'd take for them to let someone rev and record the engine. I also wonder if the acoustics of the submarine's hull would render the recording useless for locomotive purposes.

Now, regarding the steam engine, is that a modified LS&I 2-8-0 or a proper WM H9?

Cheers,
Ben

*Okay, I also know one 8 - TVA's Gallatin Fossil Plant H16-66, which is operated sporadically.

I've wondered the same thing about FM prime movers since surviving maritime and static versions of those engines are far more common than their locomotive counterparts. USAX 1843 in NY is still probably the best bet though. I don't think the TVA one has run in years since the rail connections there were deactivated.

It's a real H9. No foobie here.

I might see what I can dig up on that one in Oregon- I may be roughly in that area sometime next year, so it might be feasible.

Thanks everybody for your responses so far, I'm looking forward to getting these projects out the door and hopefully I'll be able to start with what most people want!

I would love to have more Garrats, all types - but especially the large ones similar to the classes used in Africa like the GL, GMAM,GEA,GF etc with all the bells and whistles like realistic Garrat exhaust beat ,steam and smoke looks and sounds to go thundering into the hills and vales of all the quality routes rolling stock and commodities we have available.

Pretty sure the steam locomotive isn't a Garratt. Aren't those the ones with the boiler wedged in the middle of the wheels or something?

Oh, I forgot to post before, but I kind of hinted at it, I'd like to see the FM with the VGN electric being a close second. Actually they're about even for me, but the FM looks closer to release.

I jumped in the pool before checking whether there is water in ..I was hinting that the OP should tackle some Garrats with his talents but I see I did not read his post properly...sorry:o
