i have downloaded several custom created pieces of motive power and rolling stock. But i am at the point now where i would like to reskin some of the motive power for my private line. the 44 tonner and a couple rs-3's. also how do i set my own road numbers in paint shed with out the pregenerated numbers showing up? I would like to use the same font and color for the numbers as i have for the text. I'm new to all this and greatly appreciate any help i can get. Thanks in advance

That tutorial is ok for learning about removing lettering from a traincar but where is a tutorial on fully reskinning a loco for a different livery or for that matter, putting new numbers and lettering on a traincar???

Wikibook Trainz has a couple of tutorials about reskinning. http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Trainz/Basic_Reskinning_for_beginners

Which is the basics. There is another one here:

http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Trainz/Tutorials_for_Content_Creation that uses Paintshop Pro, not free software but it can do a few things that the free stuff has some difficulty with and it can be faster to work in.

Think in terms of the mesh has the texture file unwrapped over it. So for a different railroad you need to change the texture.

I'd suggest doing this Blender tutorial:

http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Trainz/Tutorial_for_Blender#Newcomers_start_here

That way you get a feel for how the texture file is applied. Understanding that helps when you want to reskin or modify a texture file.

maybe i should mention I have UTC. Also I am planning on upgrading to 2009 shortly, will I still be able to use all the stuff I have already downloaded or will I need to start my rolling stock and motive power collections over?

UTC assets for the most part will run in TS2009 but there are higher quality assets available in later versions.
