I need help with a policy.

Buffalo_trains93

It's snowy here.
Hey guys, I recently saw WCL (I belive) had a CR80Mac that I know was from DigitalRoundhouse. I have seen a few other members here with it but I had one question. Because Digitalroundhouse is out of business does that mean that I can never get the CR80Mac? I'm not asking for people to send it to me but I was just curious. It's a great engine and there are none out there anymore. I guess what I'm meaning to say is is it still technically illegal to have it sent to you since they are out of business. I HAVE NOT HAD IT SENT TO ME, I am just curious as to what the policy is now. Sorry for being nooby,

Copyrights last a long time. Although Digital Roundhouse has been bulldozed, Andy "Realsquash" Quaas (the maker of the coveted locomotive) still drops in here from time to time, very rarely, but he has not shuffled off this mortal coil just yet.

So, yes, still technically illegal.

I used to do Trainz on the Road shows with Andy. If I ever speak with him again, I will ask him about redistributing his work.;)

Euphod that would be Greatly Appreciated. Just out of curiosity, how much was the CR SD80Mac at DigitalRoundhouse? I joing a few months after it went out of business.

Thanks again!

I think I paid $5.00 for it back in 2003.
Ed, you are about to crack 5000. Will you get a merit badge or something?

I don't know about 5000, but for 4000 I think you get scorn, smart-a__ comments and ridicule!:D

While you both are here I have one question I hope you guys could answer? If I go to CMP and change the trainz build in the Config.file to 2.4 does that mean it will work in 04 and up? I don't know if this will work. I have a new route that is being made in 09 but uses soley 06 and 04 content. No 09 content is used therefore eliminating that factor. For some photo's and stories just check out the link provided. Thank you one again Euphod and Gary for your help.

God Bless,

I don't believe for one minute that anybody would ridicule you or make smart a__ comments.:) You better wade in on Ryan's question. I'm strictly a 2004 guy and know little about the CMP and all those new goodies. I do own 2006 and 2009 though.

For what it's worth, copyright lasts the life of the author plus 50 years. Copyright can be assigned so this may help someone to purchase resale rights or something. Just talk to the owner.

The Internet Archive can be very good, but not always. I was able to recover a few lost web sites of my own from the site, but not the ones that really matter. Sometimes the Archives stores them, sometimes it doesn't. You may be able to contact the author if he hasn't changed his email address, but I doubt that the download links will still work. Good luck anyway.

I wouldn't be suprised if it didn't. Euphod said that if he hears from Andy he will ask about redistributing it, as I am fully ready to pay the 8.00$ USD for the CR SD80Mac, but I still have the question about back dating if anyone can shed light on that.

Thanks to all who have helped :-)

Euphod said he will try and contact Mark or Andy,

"BEEP...BEEP...BEEP...BEEP"

What's that sound? That's the sound of you backing up!:D

I said, if I hear from Andy I will ask him about redistributing his creations. I did NOT mention Mark, and I did not say I would try to contact either of them. You see, that's all been done before, with no results. We are talking about YEARS ago.

The chance of hearing from Andy is slim to none, so I wouldn't get your hopes too high!

Err, that varies from item to item and country to country. Not all countries abide by the same copyright law. Your best bet is to do some research before hand.

...pining...

 ...seen that, been here...

I know that the DR content was made for TRS2004...that means there are possibly more file types there that we have converters for...

In other words...you may obtain the locomotive only to find problems there now that were not apparent back in 2003....that may be why it's not available today...

In 2003 that SD80MAC looked like butter...it's easy to obsess to something you don't have, especially if you can't get it...

DR has the right to withhold assets, but the locomotives they have produced could always turn up at anytime made by someone else!
