I am having problems with installation of SnC and going mad in the process

I have the SnC Installer.exe sitting in J:\TS12 and this is the folder containing the instance of TS12 that I want to use.

I run the program answer all the questions and then find it is installing in an instance in F:\TS12. I cancel that and changed the name of the F:\TS12 folder to rubbish and did the same for the TS12.exe file. To cut the story short I have changed all the names except the one I want which by the way is build 49922, no update available, however, now I have cut off all the paths except the one I want, I get the message that the target program is out-of-date and needs an update. Naturally, it doesn't tell me what path it is following so I can't find that incorrect target and hide it.

The mindless install program looks everywhere but in the folder it is sitting in almost on top of the TS12 folder name. I even tried it actually in the TS12 folder but get the same runaround.

I don't know who coded the installer but they need some lessons.

Hi Peter
The installer for the S&C pack is a very early DLC installer, which we've improved on since it was released. At this time, we've not updated the installer to make use of the newer installer system.

However, it's fairly simple to 'fix' this, if a little round about.

First, install the pack as a 'stand alone' version. Once installed, go to the 'builtin' folder for the S&C installation, and copy the '.ja' file that is in this folder. Now go to the desired TS12 installation, and paste the '.ja' file into here.

Once you have done this, open the Configure Trainz options (accessed by clicking on 'options' on the launcher screen), then enter the S&C pack's serial number in to the box at the top, then click on 'add'. Now run Trainz. A database repair will be done, and then the S&C pack will be fully installed.

Thanks Zec. I reacted as I did because as it was payware, I expected a little more 'polish'. I will do as you suggest.

Hi Peter
The S&C pack's installer worked well when released, as there was only TS2009 SP2 at that stage. As such, we only tested the installer with a single version/installation of Trainz. After TS2010 came out, it didn't work quite so well, although the majority of the time it picks up the 'desired' install, since it generally picks up on your most recent Trainz installation. If, though, you wanted it to go elsewhere, you needed to do things manually.

If we do update the pack to include the update (found here, if you wish to install it: http://download.ts2009.com/patch/snc_40836_to_41903.exe ), then it's possible the installer will be updated. However, we do not have any plans for this at the current time.

How does one know if they have the version with the faulty/problematic installer? My version is dated 16 Oct 2009 and don't recall having any problems in either TS10 or TS12. The routes and sessions are listed in TS12 but I cannot recall actually running any of them in TS12 since I discovered content creation.

Hi

Once you have it installed and patched, make a copy of the .ja file somewhere safe. If you have to reinstall TS2012 at some time all you need to do is copy and paste the .ja file across into the built in folder. I have done this with all my add-ons and it saved me a considerable amount of time last year when my installation became corrupt and I had to reinstall TS2012. It's a lot quicker than reinstalling everything as you only need to do one EDR after copying them all across and adding their serial numbers.
