How to put a max on speed limit?

I have a small industrial spur where I would like the speed limit to be no more than 15 mph.
How would that be done?

Thanks,
Al

Hi Al,

You need to place a speed limit sign at the entry from the main line to the spur of 15 mph.
You may need to hunt for a suitable format (depending on when/where your layout is representing).

You could also use an invisible sign - this will set the speed limit, but won't show.

Hobo-Al - In Surveyor Edit Route mode, go to the Tracks (F4) overlay and then select the Trackside Mode tab (Y).
In the searchbox at the top, type 'speed' to see a listing of the majority of the speed limit signs available on your current installation
There are many of them! Choose one that limits loco speed to 15 MPH and then click on the section of track at the point where you need this limit to apply.
Then run a driver session to observe how AI drivers obey your new speed limit. :)

To clarify a bit further, I was hoping to set the max speed of 15 mph not in AI but in running a train, as shown below:

Is there a way to do this?

BTW - don't forget to put another (higher) speed limit sign for the attention of any drivers coming out of that 15 mph spur on return, so that they get up to mainline speed quickly again.
Otherwise, they'll continue to plod along at that agonisingly slow speed.

In real life railroading... how does the crew know when the end car is past a speed restriction? Surely an EOTD (End of Train Device) doesn't provide that information. Do they watch mile markers while knowing the length of their consist?

There are no speed signs, nor mileposts at each and every mile, nor are there signals at each and every turnout ... The EOT may be able to tell them the distance passed ... If there is no DPU pusher (who can see and report on the speed sign) the train crew guestimates when the last car has cleared the turnout points and frog

Driving manually ... you can negligently over speed ... You have to manually adjust the throttle manually, reading and complying with the speedboard signs

You can (somehow) adjust the speed limit lower, of the entire route ... IDK about individual sections of trackage displaying slower speed limits

Hobo_Al - You will observe that new speed limit apply on the HUD speedometer as soon as you (or your driver) pass the track marker with the reduced speed limit and AI drivers will comply with that new speed limit setting.

Try it and see for yourself!

There are also some Driver Rules that you can apply to particular consists, like 'MaxPermittedSpeed' (Author bloodnok) and 'Set Max Speed To' (Author nikkia).
<kuid2:60850:89000:7> MaxPermittedSpeed
<kuid2:450022:90001:2> Set Max Speed To

I have used these in the past to set different max speeds for passenger vs freight operations on the same stretch of track.
