How to get rid of tapping railsound?

Hi everyone

I don't know if one of the patches for Trainz 12 does it, but I don't really like the sound of how the rails sound when I drive. Is the rail sounding file in train itself or does it come with the rails or even somewhere else? Or is there an update for it?

To be clear, I'm talking about the tapping noise that goes faster and faster when the train does. Like the rails aren't welded together.

Thanks for all the help.

Try this...
Go into your installation directory of Trainz...

"/Program Files/Auran/TS12/"

and find a file called "trainzoptions.txt" It will will have a lot of things written with a hyphen before it. Add this at the bottom of the list:

-disablerailjointsound

Then get into the game. It won't disable every sound, but the main sound should not be there. If what your having problems with IS still there, then that means it's the tracksound asset made by Auran that is played by the bogies. In that case, exit the game, remove the -disablerailjointsound from the trainzoptions.txt, and IDK. You'd have to add a tracksound to every bogie.

Cheers,
Joshua

Add this to the trainzoptions.txt which is located in the main Trainz folder. And welcome aboard.
-disablerailjointsound

Ok Joshua beat me to it. LOL

Thanks SantaFebuff and bnsf50. That worked perfectly and easy to do aswell, but you have to know it first. Thanks again!

@cascaderailroad: Thanks, I will give it a go aswell. For it to work properly I will have to remove -disablerailjointsound again, right?

Hello iPodEdE, I'm not sure if you noticed but on the top-left corner of each and every post on the Forum, there is a date and time. For instance, the post immediately preceding yours has a timestamp reading "September 24th, 2011, 01:01 PM". As you can probably tell, this is nearly two years ago. Typically, you should not post in threads that have been inactive for more than a month unless you have something truly significant to contribute to the discussion such as a solution to the problem being discussed.
