Hi does anybody know how to cross a railtrack over another railtrack?
As I am creating a route (bescot) and using google maps I have noticed that there is a cross track on there and cannot seem to get a railtrack to cross over the other?
If anybody knows how to do this could they let me know how it is done that would be great, chears.

Alternating the "Hold Shift", and "Don't Hold Shift" keyboard key will either stop/make tracks from joining like magnets ... also zooming in makes precise spline point placement... as when zoomed way out the spline a point will not stay placed.

Hi class1987.

I assume you are referring to Bescot marshalling yard (which you can see from the M6 motorway).

There is a piece of track which crosses 2 lines which can be seen from the road:

To make this is easy. Make sure you have a totally flat piece of baseboard for the bit you are creating, and then simply lay the crossing track over the top of the dual track. You won’t be able to control it with points levers, so there is a risk of collision!

In addition to what Casper has said, I think that part of the ATLS traffic control kit by boat has the parts needed to prevent trains from colliding at cross overs. andi06 has also created a few crossovers as part of his animated junctions kit.
Hope this helps with your layout.

you could also search the DLS for "diamond", as there a few of what they call "diamond crossings" available.

ok so all i need to do is place the track over the other?

Thats all, but the crossing trains wont be "aware" of each other and this may result in the odd effect of one train going through another!

Hence the comments about signalling the crossings.

Crossing tracks

The simplest way is to place a set af trap points in advance of all the stop signals that protect the tracks and set them all to default to the trap points direction, In this way every train approaching a sinal with the trap points at default will stop. Set the trap points for the train you wish to move and the signal will clear but only for that train, If the trains are running in IT they should set the correct points.

I do like this Forum.

Try to help one person ... and then learn three new things from others! All of the subsequent advice is really useful.

Thanks everyone.

By the way, anyone notice the similarity to FMA and Trunda grass in the real picture of Bescot yard? I wonder which type they cultivate there?:D

great chears for the tips :D
Mezzoprezzo what type of track did you use in that image I have been looking for it on the game can't find it.
What is the title of it as it looks perfect for Bescot yard like on the image :)

thanks.

The track is by drstrach.

I use his track almost exclusively – it’s great. So are lots of his other assets. All on the DLS.

His track selection now numbers well over 100. There are lots of different styles with some very clever transitional pieces. Perfect for either new, dirty, concrete, wooden or old overgrown rusty and rail-less (sleepers only) areas.

They are all coded according to type (pretty easy to work out once you’ve used a few). The codes are explained on the DLS with each of his rail thumbnails.

The track in my illustration is S49-IB-K 01.
