How to create smooth curved track?

Hi Jeff --

Hmm - I think that a dozen or so of us have responded to this sort of question at least four score and ten times.

Do a search for "template" and "templates" and you'll find most of my answers.

Another option is to used fixed radi track (it's listed as an object built in to game) to make your curve. Then remove sections and fill it in with a track spline of your choice. If you don't use spline attachments throughout the entire curve then your track will "wobble."

Mr. Den put a series of templates on the DLS that I have found very useful. They range from 1 degree (huge radius) all the way down to 100 meters, and are easy to use once you get a little experience with them. Search "guide curve" with all boxes checked.

...believe it or not...

 You can use the same tool to form curves as you do to straighten tangents...the Straighten Spline tool(Ctrl+B).

When you lay track you normally place more spline points than needed...try to reduce the number of points first.

When your down to just enough to form curves, use the straighten tool starting on the tangents, then work the curves all the way to the next straight section(tangent).

Surveyor gets the idea after a few clicks & offers possible radii that you may use to form a smooth transition curve into the max radius needed.

On uneven terrain, you may have to manually adjust the height of some spline points to achieve a prototypical change of elevation.
