How to create a custom consist to be used in my routes?

I would like to be able to create several custom consists that could be used as AI trains in my custom-designed routes and which could be referenced - say - in having a portal generate one or more of these custom consists.

Is this possible? If so, I'd appreciate a pointer to a tutorial on how to do this?

Thanks,

Wes

G'day Wes,
At least for 04 and 06 (and probably later versions that I don't have) you can make a list of custom consists and store them for use as AI trains. Using the Add Train slide out, you put your consist together on a suitable piece of track, configure the wagons for their loads and then save them. You can then call on a portal to produce these trains randomly at preset intervals. If you have already set up a session with AI trains in Surveyor mode then getting a portal to issue trains is as simple if very slightly different. If you need help then just ask here and someone will surely get you going!

Cheers
Russell.

This is correct, Russell. Just create the consists in Surveyor and the can be used by any route going forward.

In TS2010, you can use the Global Consist Library (do a search) and even insert locomotives and consists while in Driver.:)

I've found the way Auran treats the creation of consists a bit confusing. You can create them in different areas and the method of creation is inconsistent. The most reliable way to create consists seems to be as suggested by R701Rusty.

For example, If I create a consist in the Global Consist Library I cannot get that consist to appear in the list provided in Surveyor. I have copied my consists to both the Main and Surveyor lists but they never appear. Actually I'm not even sure where the Main list is used.

You can also create a consist and allocate a driver on the portal information page. AFAIK you cannot create a consist in Content Manager although I would have thought it a logical place to do it. You can, however, get a list of consists in CM.

When using the Global Consist Library, you normally add the consists while in DRIVER. See thread here:

OK - I'll give that a try. Generally I will be in Edit Session mode when I am looking for a consist or wanting to create one. To be honest it wouldn't have occurred to me to use the Global Consist Library while in Driver.

I've since searched the Manual and it mentions the GCL while in QuickDrive (driver). The WikiHelp gives some insight into the GCL (also called the Incubator). Unfortunately the text is poorly written and could use some editing. Must have been written by a programmer  .

(I can say that because I used to be a programmer and led a team of them. None of them could write documentation.)

Cheers
Paul
