How does one put an overlay from Google maps into a new route?

After viewing Deadpool's route creation thread, I decided to take on building a prototype route that ran through Corry, PA and my old hometown of Jamestown, NY to Cornell, NY. I'm starting east of Corry PA, and I want to be able to make it as real as possible. Since this is the biggest route project I've ever undertaken, I really want to use the overlay from Google maps to get things right. How do I get the overlay of this route into Trainz 2010?

Hi John,

The best way to do what you want is to invest in TransDEM. With this program, you can not only produce the topography, you'll also be able to superimpose Google Earth images or even USGS Topographic maps which I actually find more useful.

The program is worth its $35 investment.

Thanks. I'll take a look at that program, since I think this would be a unique line to replicate. I had originally thought of the Cartier Mining Railway in Canada, then thought about the one up and around Hoquiam WA, but then I was like 'hmmm how about the rail line that ran through my old hometown?' and settled on that. Its got several interesting little spots in it, so that's what I decided on.

That's a cool area to model. You could also, perhaps, if you can squeeze it in, the Bath and Hammondsport, and maybe the Wellsville and Corning. I've been through this area many years ago and even stayed in Johnson City with my uncle one summer. His house was right next to the EL and I spent my days watching freight trains.

i use overlays in my routes, i tell you what it saves a lot of time that is usually wasted hopping back and forth between Google maps and in game
