How do you switch Content Manager to list view with sortable columns?

How do you switch Content Manager to list view with sortable columns? It's kinda making me crazy that this isn't obvious.

To sort you click the column headers, thats assuming you do not have display as thumbnails selected in which case there are no headers.

And just in case you haven't noticed if you right click on the headers you can add more column types, you can move them around as well.

"thats assuming you do not have display as thumbnails selected" -- that's my problem -- I can't find where to switch out of thumbnails.

Yeah I know somethings aren't intuitive!

Anyway, I recommend adding all the columns. Right-click on the column bar and check them all. You can then resize them and drag them into an order that suits you.

It would be great if you could nest the sorts, like getting type by author or by version, but that is probably a pipe dream. :)
