First, have you selected driver mode?
If you chose cab view when driving, then you actually need to go into cab view to drive the train. if you selected the other one (forgot what its called), simply use the , and . keys to move back and forth.

It's a rather fun loco, as you have to fill it with diesel fuel and sand, and manually start it up in DCC mode, by pushing buttons on the rear of thee cab wall, and turning switches.
