How do they compare?

I'm ready to move up from TS2006. I've read available info on 2009WBE and 2010EE. My needs are: Sometimes I'll spend weeks in surveyor creating landscapes and routes. Other times I'll spend weeks in the scenerios just operating. I love to have everything possible at my disposal when I build and see the greatest of everything when I operate both mine and others layouts. Which product will give me the best in both? They both appear to have driver and surveyor so isn't 2010EE the latest greatest of everything or will I give up something by purchasing this one? What have I overlooked that should make this a clear decision? Thanks.

The overall difference between 09 and 10 is negligible, so I'd advise going straight to 10 given you are upgrading from 06.

TS2010... (further ahead)...

I've got & run both 09 & 010. There are some that would say 010 (SP1) is 09 SP3 (without the speedtrees, layers & different routes)...
I was quite frustrated with 09 until I installed 09 - SP3. - IMHO TS2010 seems to run smoother than 09 for me and overall I'm reasonably happy with it. Especially CMP 3.2
That's not to say that's there not a few things that need fixing in 010. (far less warts than 04/06/09 had/have). I have seen a list of TS2010 SP2 fixes and I am looking forward to installing SP2 once it is released.

I hate sounding like I'm _issing in N3V's pocket, but I believe TS2010 is the best version of Trainz's to be released to date... (IMHO)... (some die-hards will disagree, and some of them will probably still be disagreeing in 10-20 years time). (& good luck to them)...

Die-hards!!! - Don't you just love those that are still driving around in Henry's Model T Ford...
Best car ever built according to my granddad... (as the salesman said to him when he brought one. "you can have it in any colour you want, as long as it is black").
He's assured me he'll never replace it. Still gets him from "A to B".. As he said to me the other day, "progress, who needs progress"? - "in my day, when I was a young lad, if we wanted to communicate between farms, we sent up smoke signals"... What's wrong with smoke signals? Worked for us... :hehe:
Cheers, Mac...

Footnote; Had some minor hiccup's when I tried to combine 09/10. (problems where probably something I was doing wrong). In the end installed 010 as a stand-a-lone and haven't looked back since... Imported trucks loads from 06/09 and still steaming alone fine...

-I have 06, 09, and 2010 and i would have to agree than 2010 is the best release yet! the only thing that screws me up is this layer system for more than one reason. 1 it screws me up and 2 compatibility with transdem (but that's on the transdem side).
-also i dunno if its just me but i cannot get both 09 and 2010 to install together so i just installed 2010 as a stand alone. i guess the upside to that is if u have a loco (example) that might have an error or something u can install that to diff. versions of trainz and see how it reacts in the game.

I would agree that TS2010 is the best edition yet except for layers ,and like many others a feature does not interest me and screws up the whole process of working in Surveyorfor me.

If you understand layers and how it functions then TS 2010 is probably your best bet.

I have 2010 and if you don't want to use the layers then you don't have to use them. It is a feature available if you wish to use it.

Layers have always been available in a way. You built the route and modified it on the route side. You did adjustments to industries in the session area. So the physical layout came from the route and the operation aspect of the industries was stored in the session file. Now you have more control over them and more of them if you wish.

I loved Trainz 2006 when it first came out and it was much better than UTC and Trainz 2004, I especially loved Verns route "The Glasgow to Falkirk route, but only for the annoying "clunk, click, hiss, bang" noises from all over the map, I would have stuck with Trainz 2006 until Trainz 2010 was released.

I bought Trainz 2010, because the sound was fixed, it featured the whole East Coast Mainline route from London Kings Cross to York, it featured Speedtree, which I also love, and I had a problem with silver land in Trainz 2009, which was also fixed in Trainz 2010.

I would recommend Trainz 2010 as long as you have the money to buy it, along with a good enough computer that can handle the huge routes that are included with the package, there is a lot more content in Trainz 2010 than Trainz 2006, with a lot of updated content as well.

The HST's were a dissapointment, The HST engines themselves look great, but the coaches are Paintshed reskins, even though Auran wants to dissmiss themselves from paintshed, they still use the content, even if they just painted them up a little.

Other than that, Trainz 2010 is by far the best rail simulator on the market and has beaten Railworks in many aspects, (except the HST Set, Railworks have a better looking one).

If your into UK routes, then I would also recommend Trainz Classics UK, this is the best UK rail simulator on the market, and beats Railworks hands down.

Hope this information helps

I have never added any layers to the route I am building so I have a route layer and a session layer which in a way is identical to what we had before. I have had no problems as I haven't used them. If I am doing route work I edit my route and when doing session type stuff I edit my session. If you don't play with it it won't bite you.

Now I have done some testing with layers and for dedicated route builders they are fantastic. Build your track work in say a track layer. Lock it down and no accidental movement of tracks as you work on your buildings in your building layer. Lock that down and place your vegetation in your vegetation layer. Only move the trees and not the buildings.

So you can ignore layers if you wish so Trainz is like the old days or you can use them and the sky is the limit.

Now one thing Auran does need to do is show better what layer that you are working under. So when working with layers you have to be aware of what you are doing like most CAD programs.

I am not a content creator but like to tinker with existing routes , sometimes moving a tree off a track where it does not belong. this automatically creates a new layer which to me is a useless manruver which clogs up thesystem.

Which version of TransDEM are you using ??? The new 2.0 version seems ok but what problems are you experiencing?

yes i am using the new 2.0 version. im experiencing reduced frame rates. example: if i have the, ground texture from raster map, switched on in the, overlay bitmap box, and put the same map in ts2010 and ts2009, ts2010 will give me frame rates not even worth building in. but 2009 is fine. i even tried exporting to ts2009 then importing from ts2009 to ts2010 and i still get the same effect. Dr. Roland Ziegler said it has to do with the layer system in ts2010. and that sux cause i want to build in ts2010.

Thanks guys. Evidently 2010 will do everything I want and apparently better than 06 and 09 so I'll go with that. You've been a great help. I've always thought it ashame you couldn't go to these forums for advice on everything in life...these be good people. Again, thanks.

I hadn't realised that, although I must admit, what I have done so far is limited due to me being busy route building in RailWorks.

Thanks for the info.

TS2010 is by far the best trainz version ever right out of the box. i had more fun running TS2010 without any downloaded content at all for a few days before i started porting my download stuff in. this is the first time since UTC that i had done that. and only then bc UTC is where i started with trainz. every other version since then have been - boooring - until adding to it.
