How can I get started with TS2009WBE

I've had a fasination with trains since I was growing up and originally wanted to build a HO scale train layout. I saw this on line and though this would be better. Well, my problem is now that I have TS2009WBE I really don't know how to get started with it. I've tried some of the routes already on it and tried to do add on's, but they didn't work. I figure once I get good with/at it I want to recreate the freight and passenger lines in my home town and state (Oakland, CA.). On the Industrial Wasteland Route, I tried to add the TTX Container cars to it and it just would not act right. So, here's my question: Can someone out there HELP me get started in the right direction here and does anyone know how to recreate the Cailfornia freight and passenger routes? Also, would like to know where can I get an original SP and ATSF loco set(s). Also, some of their company rail cars and equipment? My routes will be based on the 1970 - 2000 era, right about the time ATSF merged with BN and UP merged with SP, but I want to have the major lines of the middle era (Santa Fe, Southern Pac and Union Pac). I will definately need HELP with the AMTRAK routes. So, for a first time user of this program, Can someone again, PLEASE HELP ME. Thank you.

G'day Lonewarrior63,

Welcome to Trainz. As BLACKWATCH suggests (and I am oft heard to quip), when all else fails, RTFM, which seeing as you downloaded the program 'online' and have no physical 'hard-copy' of it, can be found in the directory where you installed the program in the /Extras/Documentation/ folder as a *.pdf type file, probably called "TS2009WBE_manual" (or something like that)...

...we have here a community based 'server' that contains a large proportion of the assets created by the aforesaid community, which we call "The Download Station" (or DLS), which, as soon as you register your copy of the program on the Auran website (if you haven't done so already), will become available to you. From this 'station' you can download any (and ALL if the mood takes you) of the items that are to be found. I am sure you will be well out of your depth once you become familiar with the 'process'! ALL of these assets are free...

...those assets that are not free (which we call "payware") are usually available from other web sites dotted around the net, the location of which can be found by spending some time on the Auran home page, et al...

...I can't offer much advice as to the source of your problem; your description is not specific enough (you will learn that when asking for assistance, here, you must meeds be quite specific in order to obtain clear and concise answers)...

I would think that you have all the patches and at the latest build number.
Sometimes this take a long time to do but once you start leave it alone it may look like it doing nothing but it is. After you have all the patches you will need to do an extended date base repair this too will take some time so be prepared. Also you will need to up grade your directX to 9c.

Are you by any chance trying to run TRAINZ 09 on a Laptop computer? TRAINZ (any newer version) does not run very well on Laptops unless you have a high end unit. We would also need to know the exact error messages that you are receiving in order to assist you.

I don't think the user has a problem with the program not loading, I think it's more like "where do I get started".

The process isn't as difficult as it seems, LoneWarrior.

Go to Surveyor, and create a new route. You'll be prompted for a region. Choose USA.

Once you get going, you'll be presented with a screen with some tool buttons on the right and a big gray and yellow grid.

The various tools on the right consit of a topology tool to manipulate the landscape, textures where you paint the surface, a scenery tool to put in objects such as buildings, trees, and interactive industries. There is also a sub tab for that for splines such as roads, fences, and telephone poles.

The track tab contains the rails, track, bridges along with a sub-tab for signals, bumbers, switch machines, and other trackside objects.

Then there is the consist tab. This is where you place your trains, either individually, or through the consist sub tab where you can place complete consists. You can create your own by selecting your placed trains and naming the consist. This is very helpful later on when you want to make up a passenger train, for example, because every coach needed will already be in place. All you'd do then is add a different engine if you want, or even include the engine in the consist, so everything is ready to go.

The add-ons, which you must mean downloads from the DLS, may contain errors. SOme of the older content, even though it works in most cases, does contain errors. These need to be fixed before the program will load them in native mode. There are many threads on how to do this, but feel free to post questions about doing this. The content may also be missing dependencies. This happens too if the original author had used something that was not on the original DLS, but from a third-party site. These errrors are slowly being corrected, but there is no ETA on the completion of this schedule.

I have vista, and back when I had 2009, they were very laggy with me. Do you have XP? That could be a reason. Check if some error occured when installing it. That's how 2010 went when I installed it. Hang in there:)

Hi fanatic143,

I considered creating the WP and SP, San Jose to Oakland but, being fond of Niles Canyon and Altamont Pass, I am creating WP and SP Milpitas to Stockton instead, circa 1962 using only built in content.
I have read here of some one planning on Rosevile to Oakland but soon realized it was too massive for a first try.
Where to start? Get good with some of the layouts that come with TS2009. I sugest Tidewater. Then try modifying layouts to your taste. When reasonably good at that, try your own layout, nothing too complex. and then, GO for it! :D

HOW DO I GET STARTED WITH TS2009WBE (2)

Hey SuperFudd,
Thanks for your reply. It was spot on. Glad that someone understood what I was asking. I did register on the DLS, but I don't think it took. I tried to download all the up to date and lastest Locos, cars and equipment from the railroads operating where I live and I couldn't get it to work. When it comes to this stuff I'm not that get at it. Seeing that your from where I live, when did all four railroads do their mergers? Also, I saw that someone said that if you use Mapquest and some of the other map directional sites that you could get the actual layouts of the railways. Is that possible? I still can't get add on's it take on a lot of the preset layouts/sessions. Please assist. Has anyone else tried to do the Port of Oakland to Port of Los Angeles and Amtrak (both Ca Coridoor and Liners) on the program yet? I would appreicate your help or assistance in starting on this little project. Also, how can I get one of those cool icons/avatars next to where my ID/Username. Again, thanks for giving me a little direction to start. Thank you from Kuwait (USN/R),

Hi Lone Warrior, (name change??)

WP was aquired by UP in 1985. I think SP was aquired by UP about 10 years later.
The DownLoad Station (DLS) has had troubles lately, what with the floodsin Australia and all.
No time for more now. Gotta get to bed.
