How are Americans supposed to pay the 10% tariff on N3V sales?

How ironic.

This thread won't last long. Not sure if it is a good or bad thing considering the question that started it.
According to the forum guidelines, no political discussions are allowed, so why this wasn't nipped in the bud is a mystery........sort of .

The original question was a request for information which was satisfied by the post that Americans will need to report it on their annual tax returns.

From your posts I suspect you may not agree with many of the posts on the thread, whether they are political or not is probably a matter of interpretation and how sensitive you are.

for example "The last administration incompetence and corruption" I might consider to be political.

Request to the moderators, please lock the thread, my question has been answered and we seem to be upsetting a few people.

Thanks John

Anything regarding tariffs , which is what is saturating the global news, is political regardless of which side you take, and the odds were high that this thread was going that direction. Since the thread was being allowed, it was hard for me to let things slide when personal slams were being made toward our current government leader. Maybe I shouldn't be acting on impulse, but only one view was being expressed, so once I entered a counter-view, that's when it became toxic.....? So this is OK ,

"Those darned penguins, stupid, stupid penguins"
-The man in the house of white, 2025, for a reason we can't explain"

and this one:

I would fully expect the current president of the United States, given his limited understanding of tariffs, to impose tariffs on digital goods in short order once the world begins reacting to the current U.S. policy.
but my comment was out of line ?....... None of these are OK. ....not on the Trainz forum, yet I'm the only one being singled out.
I can express and support my views in detail about this tariff situation, but I'm no expert and neither is anyone else here. There's plenty of other forums where people can rant about this and these political discussions can get pretty nasty and personal. It's not a good idea to let that happen here, regardless of your opinions. It would have been wise on my part not to engage, but I do have a problem with letting things slide when only one view is presented or accepted.

Getting right back to the topic at hand and ignoring all the "politics", here is a snippet of research I just conducted.

Q: How will the tariffs affect digital downloads across international borders?
A:
There is currently a WTO moratorium on imposing customs duties on electronic transmissions in place until the 14th WTO Ministerial Conference or 31 March 2026, whichever is the earlier

So unless the US and other countries that are imposing new tariffs suddenly withdraw from the WTO (World Trade Organisation) then there will be no extra charges until either of the two dates mentioned above (currently both events are in March 2026 unless the tariff "crisis" brings the meeting forward).

So an American downloading the Australian software package TRS22 will not be charged a 10% import tariff until, at the very least, the dates listed, but perhaps not even afterwards. If it turns out that a tariff will be applied by WTO agreement then there is a complication due to fact that the servers where the Trainz Store (and TRS22) resides are, the last I heard, in the USA - so is it an import or not?

We will wait and see.

My (hopefully) final thoughts.

A new (final) thought:

On the question of "is it an import or not"? could possibly be answered by classifying the Amazon USA servers as "Custom Holding Centres" for imported products - just like the olden days when products offloaded at a port from foreign ships where held in custom clearance storage until picked up by the importer or individual buyers at which point any duty was then paid.

Yep, which is why my first two words of post #2 were "They won't."
