HON3 Model Trains

Hey Guys,

I know this has nothing to do with the Trainz game, but does anyone know a model train manufacturer that make HON3 K-36's, K-28's, K-27's, C-16's with operating Lights and sound in really good quality detail if someone could get back to me in regards to this subject it would be greatly appreciated.

Kindest Regards,

A quick looked in a few issues of Narrow gauge & Short Line Gazette which yields:

Precision Sale Co, inc. These are high end super detailed brass imports and not cheap.

Blackstone Models. This is what I think the above link leads to.

I'm sure there area few others - just not advertised in these issues.

Model RR Magazine might show a few others as well.

I have a 14' 6" by 40' Hon3 layout with all the locos in your list and they range from $350 for a C-16 to $950 for a K-37. An 0-6-0T for example was $495. The Sumpter Valley 2-6-6-2 was $1050. Its not a cheap hobby anymore (which is why I have over 5500items on the DLS and haven't even turned the lights on in my RR room in a goodly number of years.).

EDIT: I forgot to mention looking in a recent issue of NG & SL Gazette turned up two companies that specialize in used locos:
Coronado Scale Models
Southwest Narrow Gauge

There are almost certainly others.

On30 being able to use HO standard gauge track components is a great help.

There are excellent On3 track components out there. 3 feet long flex track sections and companies that offer switches kits, etc. but they must be placed on hand laid ties. The work is worth the effort but it is a bit of a chore. The same applies to HOn3 although quite recently someone came out with a series of ready to run HOn3 turnouts. This all goes away with On30. Oodles, heaps, and gobs of track components are available ready to install and use with out the hand laying of ties, etc. and generally speaking they are pre-wired , gaped, etc.. Not that hand laid track isn't nice. It can be far better then store bought components and there are no limits. You need a #5-1/2 switch? No one makes one? Make your own.

Ben (who wishes that company that makes the RTR HOn3 switches had come out several years ago).
