Hills and Portals

This is probably a silly question but... How do you place a portal in a hill? I placed 2 portals on a flat baseboard and raised the terrain to hide them but the portals "filled up" So how do I hide a portal in a hill without filling it up? Thanks in advance from a dumb routebuilder.

I don't think you can - you can hide a portal behind a hill, but not in a hill.

You could try adding the line

height-range -50,50

to the config, which 'should' make the thing height adjustable but for what it is worth I used to 'hide' portals, but now I just stick 'em out in the open about a board in from the end of the route. Yes, it looks a bit funny if you are actually watching as a train is spawned or consumed, but it is truly one of the few aspects of my routes that nobody has ever complained about...

If you want the portal in the hill then dig a hole using the AJS Dighole. This cuts a hole in the baseboard that is sufficient height and width to stick a tunnel or portal into.
