Help with Triggers (need some understanding)

Hello all, I'm using Trainz 2010 Build 41615 and have been adding triggers to my route, however, after following some instructions from a tutorial I'm a little confused as to how to get them to work...

What I am trying to achieve is: I have two lines, one for passenger and one for industry. There is one short section of track where the two tracks share a single line of about 50 meters. I have placed triggers so that the industrial trains stop before the signals and lets the passenger line through but this doesn't happen.

I'm wondering do I need to place triggers on both lines or just one or the other. At present the triggers are only on the passenger line. and the passenger train is the one that's stopping, but, after the signal and just before the switch.

The tutorial on this that I followed is: "Signalling Crossing Tracks and Double Track Junctions" A really good tutorial.

I can't remember where I found it but if I can upload it here or you can send me an email I'll be happy to pass it on.

Also, if you can see my avatar does anybody know if it is available to add to a consist and where do I find it. Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello, it sounds to me like your trigger is affecting the signal on the passenger line, rather than the freight line. Or, possibly, your passenger train isn't "tripping" the trigger before the freight train has passed its signal. It's hard to tell without actually seeing what you're working with.

My suggestion is to position your trigger further back on the passenger line, so that the train hits it sooner. Assign a name to the signal on the freight train's path, and use the "Trigger Multiple Signals" rule to set it to "Danger" when the passenger train hits its trigger. Using this rule is covered in the tutorial you mentioned. This should force the freight train to stop and wait if the passenger train is approaching the intersection, but if the freight train enters the junction before the trigger is tripped, the passenger train will still have to wait for it to pass.

Hope this helps!

I have done what you said but I have also placed a trigger on the track that the two lines HAVE to share. I've used a separate rule for each trigger and I have added a second "Trigger Multiple Signals" rule to take care of the trigger on the shared line ONLY. It's set up to activate the signals on the passenger line, so that if the freight train is passing through, the passenger train will stop, where as the other rule is set up to active the signals on the freight line and (hopefully) stop the freight train. Is that right?
