Hope this is in the right forum. I tried to upgrade my version of TS 12 this morning and all I got at the end, was this message.

Checking for available disk space for patching.
Searching for patches...
Downloading patch file...
Unpacking patch file...
Patching from 48249 to 49922...
Failed to create backup of file C:\Program Files (x86)\N3V Games\TS12\bin\ContentManager.exe.pbk
Failed to apply the patch: 48249_to_49922
Patching aborted.

Can anyone tell me what to do? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi Keith,

Try running the patch as an Administrator. Right-click on the downloaded patch, and choose run as administrator.

See if that helps.

I'm afraid that means a reinstall of the game.

Have a look at my patch guide at http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?91349-Patching-Guide-for-TS2009-TS2010-and-TS12 for advice on patching.

Thank you John, BD1 and Shane for your replies. After trying the first two suggestions with no luck, I'm going to do what Shane said and reinstall. Hope all goes smooth. If it doesn't I'll go back to TS 10.

Who's had a senior moment? I deleted TS 12 and then remembered it was a digital download. Guess i'm on TS 10 for a while now.

Keith

If it's a digital download, you should still be able to re-download the files from the site where you bought it from.

TRANSFERRING FILES IN WINDOWS 8

:confused:I do not seem able to transfer CDP files to the Download Helper section while using Windows 8. Any ideas?
First suggestion;

http://forums.auran.com/trainz/show...ezes-1-2-way-during-patch&p=793644#post793644

Make sure you have enough disk space and the temp folder isn't stuffed full, and the disk isn't fragmented.

Second suggestion, when you reinstall and see "now installing in
C:\Program Files (x86)\N3V Games\TS12\" or whatever it says, change the install path to
C:\N3V Games\TS12\
so you don't have to fight with UAC over control of the Trainz folder.

TRANSFERRING CMP FILES

Hello Shane, Thanks for your quick reply. My difficulty is this. I receive an email which has two attachments. I say "Save the attachments". The attachments are saved in a file called "Downloads". Then, in Content Manager, in the file section, I say "Import CDPs". Up comes a little screen called "Downloads" showing the two CDP files. Normally, I left click one the CDP files and move it into the Download section, but I can't do it. It just will not allow me to move these files. Sorry to be so long-winded about this, but I am not computer literate at all and I need things explained in minute detail.

If you are referring to CDPs you have already downloaded, use the Import CDP command in the File menu.

Shane

Hi Peter,

When using Import CDPs, you click on the CDP you want (Ctrl Click to select more than one) and then click on Import or whatever it says.

The alternative is to open the Downloads folder seperately from CM and then drag them from there without using Import CDPs at all.

Kieran.

Hi Kieran,
Thanks for our suggestions. Both result in the same manner. When I click the CDP file, up comes a little window called "Installing Content", contain the instruction "Installing CDP files" below which there is a line of blue boxes. It just sits there showing "Installing CDP files" and remains there for yonks. The longest recorded time waiting is forty five minutes with nothing apparently happening. I feel this is an excessive time to wait for a download (or perhaps it isn't?) or is something not going right? I am minded to uninstall TS 2009 and re install it. I hope that by so doing, everything (including the Content Manager) will re appear, totally clean. What do you think?

I would advise checking if 'Task Complete' appears in the title bar of that box. If it does, and the progress bar is full, you can close the box.

Shane

Hi Shane,
Thanks for email. No, nothing ever happens. It sits there with Dowloading CDP showing. It never changes to Task Complete. When I then close down, it takes a very long time and then comes up with Trainz is not responding. Close? And I do. Just for further information, when I bring up Trainz, it always starts with "Updating database" for about ten seconds, then reverts to a normal page. I'm sure there's something wrong somewhre. That's why I was interested to find out whether re loading Trainz would, as it were, start me off afresh.

Hello Shane,
Carried out Extended Database Repair. No change. For information, when I am in Surveyor or Driver, when I search for the engines which I have been trying to install, the following show: LMS Black 5 Tender (Pink lettering), LMS Black 5 Tender W (Red lettering), LMS Black 5 5428 W (Red lettering) and LMS 5MT black (White lettering - but it is a multicoloured engine, not black). Weird isn't it?
