Help With a Whistle

I know I've already posted about this very recently and Kieran (captainkman) has been very helpful, but I'm afraid my problem remains unsolved [insert long string of expletives here].

I followed the tutorial on how to do this. I used a recording of a Virginian 3 chime on a Cass Shay (I forget the number) and made a horn.wav, horn_start.wav, horn_loop.wav, and idle 1.wav files (I use Audacity). I used CCP to create the config file. I have made sure all of the files were 22000hz, 16bit, and were mono (not stereo). And I still get the same results: the whistle works fine if I'm in the cab of the loco, but complete silence outside of it, and the bell is non-existent regardless of where I am.

This is really frustrating for me because myself and a friend of mine have several recordings of some great whistles (IMO) that I would love to make available for Trainz, but I just can't seem to get it to work. Any help is appreciated!

Hello gb1290,

From the sound of your current whistle style, this would make me believe it to be a two part. In order to have the bell sound, you must have the asset open for edit in explorer via content manager and along with the horn and config file place the bell audio which sould also be saved as a .wav mono track and name it " idle 1" without the quotations. I like to save my files at 48000MHz mono. next your two part horn should not consist of a stop folder and must have the two necessary called " horn start" and " idle 1" within the folder named ( horn ). what you placed here has ( _ ) between the names and that might be what is confusing the game. try this out and tell me if it works and then we will go from there. Good luck!

Ps: get rid of the " horn_loop" just leave it as " idle 1 ". The idle 1 should be the file the game reads to make the looping sequence that happens when you hold down the H button.

Yes, it is a two part (and I double checked the config to make sure I had it set up that way). I fiddled with the file names (removed "_") and I'm afraid I got complete silence. I then created the "horn" folder and placed my horn sounds (no bell) in there, leaving the bell outside that with the config. Again, silence. I renamed "horn loop" to "idle 1" and still no cigar. After that, I put the underscores back into the file names and still silence. In case CCP has done something goofy on me, I've copied the config file below:

kuid <kuid:242881:100065>
username "VGN 3 Chime"
trainz-build 3.1
category-class "ZH"
category-region "US"
category-era "1880s;1890s;1900s;1910s;1920s;1930s;1940s;1950s"
kind "hornsound"
two-part 1

In the actual config file, these are all spaced correctly. I don't know why they aren't here.

I really appreciate your help!

I am going to send you a PM that will contain my email and I would like for you to send me the original sound files unedited and then what I will proceed to do is create a CDP and I want you to try it. ( After I create the CDP I will delete it from my system since it is your material) If it works for you I will record my actions and send them to you so you can read what I did. Once you know what to do then you can do that to all your other sounds. also, if you send me your email in a PM I have a beta reskin of N&W 611 with my custom whistle I would like for you to try for me. Thanks!
