Help Time for a new motherboard and CPU

I think you have to re install windows with a new mobo, a cpu you could have got away with it. Transfer your whole 2010/2012/2009 folders separately to an external drive if you've got one. Takes a while though. If you have the space put them in partitions of a drive when you transfer them back.

Probably not the recomended method but when I built my latest PC using new drives I copied all the Trainz stuff to one of my other PC's, Installed Win7 then copied it all back, then manually set up the shortcuts. Not had any problems and avoids going through the patching saga again.
Mine

If you are keeping the drives and Trainz isn't on the system drive you can just add the drive and set up the shortcuts. Registry entries are created after the first run.

Alternatively just install and the copy the original over the top, again saves patching but you get the shortcuts and registry entries without any need to fiddle.

I recently installed a new mobo and did NOT reinstall the OS. XP Sp3. Some programs worked, some did not. Trainz works without a reinstall.

Most times I have tried using Trainz on an old drive in a new system I have regretted. Somebody on one of these threads said that it was prevalent when you tried to go from 32 bit to 64 bit or from an HDD to an SSD etc - radical changes.

I can believe it with those two exceptions. In my case, it was only a mobo swap, and every other parameter remained the same.

I know I got away with a motherboard and CPU change before without re-installing windows xp I just un-installed all the old chipset drivers etc and put the new drivers on. in the end though I had to reinstall windows. I was planing on use my empty 1TB HDD to install windows then I was thinking of just moving over the trainz folder as they are on the system drive.

Alternatively just install and the copy the original over the top, again saves patching but you get the shortcuts and registry entries without any need to fiddle

I like this idea sounds like a plan if it saves me having to reinstall all the patches again.

Cheers Rusty.
