How do i get trains from download station on content manager to be able to be viewed in driver and surveyor modes and not just in railyard on trainz 2010: EE?

TJ,

We will need a bit more information please so as to understand what problems you may be having.

Have you tried downloading locos which appear in railyard but dont appear in the game or are you just asking a general 'how do I ??' question

....to be viewed in driver and surveyor modes and not just in railyard on trainz 2010: EE?....

By default Trainz 2010 only show "favourite" content. To change this there are a couple of things to do:

On menu where you get "Routes", "Railyard" etc click the "Menu" button (top left) then "Options" then "Surveyor Settings" and untick the box that says "Only display favourite content".

Also, in "Routes" above the list of routes click on the gold star.

Should do the trick, if not then your problem is a bit more complex than it appears to be.

I've downloaded trains onto content manager from download station but i can't use them on trainz, also i get warnings that i need to switch to LOD mesh.

Cheers itareus, its sorted half of the downloaded trains but the others are that don't work are said to be 'faulty' or have 'faulty dispendencies' and i don't no how to correct them. Any suggestions?

unfortunately, with dependency issues, there's no single clear action. Often, if you go to the site that produced the original item, the missing dependencies are found there. Items with instructions in their descriptions for doing this will be the most likely ones with which you will succeed.

As far as fixing dependency issues, it usually takes waiting for the object creator to fix the problem. Once in a while, if you check out dependency discussions in the forums, instructions for replacing a missing texture or shadow item will be given that can work.

Best of luck.

A general request for help for a specific problem is unlikely to get you what you want. Solving a specific problems requires specific information about it.
If you have a missing dependency, post the kuid number here.
If you have a faulty kuid, post the kuid number here.
The reason for this is most likely someone here has already solved that problem and will help you. Otherwise we'll work with you to solve it. Promise.

You have a few choices:
  • As suggested by rweber95 you can post the kuids of the faulty items here and get assistance in fixing them. (You can download AssetX and other content fixing tools from : http://www.members.optusnet.com.au/~villaump/pevsoft.htm - you will almost certainly need these).
  • You can wait for the faulty assets to be fixed to 2010 standards by someone else (there is an ongoing program to do this).
  • As an interim measure you can run TS2010 in "Compatibilty Mode" which will ignore the errors but will result in performance degradation.
If you decide to fix assets then please check out the forum for existing threads about this - there are lots. The best way I find to search the forum is to Google for "Trainz Forum your search text" e.g "Trainz Forum faulty assets" and then check out the threads (from the Auran forum) that this picks up. There are also some content fixing guides out there, but I don't have the links to them readily to hand.

N.B You can ignore the assets which have just "warnings", at least for now.

Cheers

Another good Google trick is this in the search box...

Your search text site:forums.auran.com

To find out what the errors are for a faulty item using CM you right click on the faulty item then click on "view errors and warnings", this will list the errors and warnings. For faulty dependancies right click on the item then "view dependancies" then "view in main window". This will list the dependancies including the faulty one(s).

You can then try fixing the errors, many are quite easy to fix such as misspelt tags in the config.txt file or xxxx.texture.txt files being listed without an image file when the texture is not needed in which case you can delete the xxxx.texture.txt file.

Searching in the following thread will help you to fix many more:

http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=56002

If you are still unsure what to do you could list the errors here and I am sure someone will be able to help.

Be sure to enclose your search text in quotes.
"search text" site:forums.auran.com

Using the quotes will return results which contain the exact search text only, leaving out the quotes will search for all words in the search text, giving priority to those results with the best match. For example:

"search text" site:forums.auran.com - returns 30 results.

search text site:forums.auran.com - returns 224 results.

All depends if you know exactly what you are looking for I guess. More search tips always welcome, perhaps this should be in a new thread !

Content Manager - What the???

Hi Guys,
This is the 1st time i've posted re CM. I used it today for the 1st time (only got TS2010 2 days ago). Sorry if this is a dumb question, but in CM, under tab "Missing Dependencies" I have a list of sessions I have tried to download. How do I fix the missing dependencies? I have tried looking at the view errors and warnings when I right click as indicated below, however it is not available. I have tried right clicking on the route in question and selecting download, but get a message across the bottom saying "unable to download 'kuid:370528:1291' couldn't obtain a download URL. Item cannot be found on the download station."
So, do I need to do a google search for each item using the kuid to try and find the problem? I really am computer illiterate so any help would be appreciated!
Thanks, Aaron
