hi all

how can i get outlook express to put it into my win7?

i tried the firefox one, but it doesn't let me do a manual configure of my email accounts
it wants to get them from another program, which with a new reformat does not exist.

any help will be greatly appreciated
thanks

Don't think you can use Outlook Express with Win7 its been binned by MS, you probably need Windows Mail or whatever Microsoft is using as an email client, not sure what you mean by the Firefox one, Firefox doesn't have an email client.
Try Thunderbird.

i got it down shane and installed it
i put in my email addresses, but it keeps telling me that it failed to connect

any ideas whats wrong?
thanks

What email provider are you using? You will need the incoming and outgoing servers.

If you are not sure, Thunderbird can get the information automatically.

Ron,

This sounds like, as Shane has pointed out, a problem with the server information.

Usually in a email account, the following information is needed:

-- Username = Your email address
-- Password = self explanatory. The password used when you created your email account.
-- Outgoing Server = can be mail.yourISPmailserver.com
-- Incoming Server = can be the same, or SMTP.yourISPmailserver.com

One of the best ways of finding out this information is to go to your ISP provider's website and look or search the support for mail server info. They usually have a settings page for various mail clients including Windows Mail, Thunderbird, or Outlook.

Hope this helps.

hi mates

just 1 more question
in windows live mail, how do i import my email address book?
any idea?

thanks again for all the help

ron

That can usually be done from the webmail side of things.

For Yahoo, log into your Yahoo Mail on the Yahoo site, then go into settings. Somewhere in there is the option to export the address book (As I do not use Yahoo, I can only make a guess here) - once you have exported them (as a Comma Seperated Values file (.csv), you will need to go into Windows Live Mail then click Contacts. A new window will now appear: Click the icon next to the blue ? icon, then select Import, then Comma Seperated Values. Select the file you just created during the export, then click Open.

For Optusnet, the process will be very similar.

If anyone else knows better about Yahoo (and I am expecting there are people who do) please fill in the missing information as a new post.
