Hello everyone

myxomatosis

New member
Hey! I just joined today after following the forum for a few days. I may be new here but I am certainly not new to Trainz- I've been playing since the beginning of 5th grade, so about 3 years! I'm 13 now and got the game the day before 5th grade started. I've always had a passion for trains and Trainz has allowed me to enjoy it all while I'm not trackside in real life. I actually had an incredible opportunity this summer to drive a Canadian Pacific ES44AC for a mile! That really boosted my love for CP making it my favorite railroad. When I first started Trainz I was discouraged by the fact that my computer was slow and honestly, sucked. It took 2 hours for Marias Pass to even load! Also then I had no skill at building routes whatsoever- I didn't know anything about it. But I've learned alot from experience and learning online.

Anyway, heres some info about me. I'm 13 and live in Rhinebeck, New York. My name is James. I attend middle school and have a burning passion for trains. I am really into music. My favorite groups are Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Guns n Roses, Queen, Rush, Yes, and so many more. Also I play guitar- I own an Epiphone SG.

Well thats all for now. I hope to become a regular and contribute plenty, along with learning quite a bit. I am excited to be a member here, it looks like a great board with wonderful and friendly people.

See you on the forums.

James.

What are your PC specs ? A Vista PC should have 1Gb Ram, or preferably 2Gb Ram, or more. A upgraded video card is the key to better framerates.

Older XP machines can run with 1Gb Ram, though a quality video card will improve framerates.

Some old 512Mb PC's wil not even run Trainz.

And low end, 1Gb Ram PC's have poor framerates.

Low end laptops have difficulties with the graphics.

You really don't need a PC that exceeds of 2 to 3Gb Ram...however a good video card will improve things.

Dialup, will make downloading almost stalled...a faster ISP High Speed connection of 1Mbs-3Mbs will alow faster downloading, and proves acceptable even without a FCT.

I have XP Home Edition on there and the graphics card is the problem. I have plans to bring the computer to the maximum, and it will be worth it.

A desktop video card will be inexpensice @ $80, or less. Ask someone here for advice on choosing a card. Or explore using the Forum Search Box: "Video Card"...etc...

I do alot of tracklaying with a Vista 1Gb Ram laptop, and transfer the routes to my desktop for running, and testing routes.

Hi James,

A bit off topic, but I thought I was the only 13 year old in the world that liked those bands!:hehe: Guns n Roses is, by far, my favorite!:D

Thanks
Mitch

It's always nice to know there is another teen who appreciates the kind of music- sadly stuff like rap is taking over.

@cascaderailroad:

Thanks, I will search. I have done loads of research and would like to settle on one before the year ends.

I could never use my laptop for anything in Trainz- not powerful enough.

Hi James, and welcolm to the forum.
Nice to see some lads with good tast in games, and music. my alltime favorit is pink floyd.

Hello James,

Welcome to the forums. Yes there are plenty of nice people here and there are some you might think are not so nice people. Most here will help with any problems you might have. This has been my case several times. Just remember to be polite and respect others and you will recieve the same treatment.

As for your graphics card problem, I would suggest somtheing from ATI Radeon. I have used both Nvidia and ATI and have found ATI to be the better by far(in my opinion anyway). I recently got a ATI Radeon HD 4600 on sale for $74.99. I must say it was well worth it.

Happy Holidays,
Matt

Thanks everyone!

I have a question, why am I unable to post a reply to someone's thread in the Screenshots forum? I wanted to compliment him on his route but when I clicked "Reply" it said that I was unable to access it etc.

Do you mean that you just registered your Trainz version with Auran. If you have registered your version, then you should be able to post in the screenshots forum unless it has something to do with the folks at Auran being on holiday.

Welcome to the forums.

Mike

Well I had a username that I created when I first bought the game, a few years ago. I hated the username. So I started a new account. I had the serial number registered under that name. Could I have the serial number transfered to this account by a moderator?

Hello James,

Good to have you on the forum, we are generally a friendly bunch, most of us anyway...

You seem to have a very broad range of interests, its so good to see fellow teenagers still have passion for railroads, that can be a relief nowadays.

Canadian Pacific?
Good choice, decent prosperous railroad with a host of predecessors that I am interested in such as Soo Line and DM&E.

If you ever need any help or just want a friend around here, feel free to message me.

Cheers,
Woody:wave:

Meh.

I Love Union Pacific more than any other Railroad!
They had the HUGE Bigboy locomotives, the fast streamliners, the awesome gas turbines, the PA1 class (they were used in other railroads though), the M10000, and the list continues. They are also usually in Armour Yellow (yellow is my favourite colour). And they are also successful railroad.

Yeah that's true. But I can't speak for liking them. I've never railfanned any of their roads- only been on the CP, CSX and NS.

I have seen a Big Boy though. It was unit #4012 on display at Scranton's Steamtown. It was sure a huge unit. My photo was taken next to it and oh man, was there a size difference!

You cannot register your serial number with another username once its already been registered. Auran might be able to help you with this, but I don't think that a moderator can do anything about it. You probably need to contact helpdesk. Remember that Auran is on holiday right now and won't be back until after the first of the year.
I seem to remember something about being able to have multiple usernames with your original account, but I'm not sure about that and wouldn't know how it's done even if it can be done.

Welcome aboard. Trains and SG's... That's happiness to me. I had a midnight blue Gibson SG supreme that suffered a tragic accidental death. It broke my heart. So now all of it's pick ups and hardware live on in my hot rodded Epiphone Sheraton. Stick you some Gibson pick ups in that thing one day, until you are able to blow a fortune on a Gibson. Just try not to break it! Anyways, I hope you get the username thing figured out, and good luck with the game.
