Trainz does get addictive! Also, when you can't do much, like I was when I got hurt, Trainz can keep you busy. I've learned a lot just reading posts, there is a lot of info here!
Check out Shane's tutorials. I bookmarked that thread. Lots of help in them.

As others have said, this can become quite addicting. This will definitely consume your life as you spend all your waking hours thinking about your route you're building.
