Heads up Internet Explorer versions 6 through 11 are not safe use something else.

Fwiw, in my personal opinion the best setting of automatic updates is not the full default automatic option, because this can and at some time certainly will interfere with what you're doing on your PC at a certain moment, but choosing for the second option "ask me first before applying the actual update". In general this means updates are downloaded in the background and every time you switch off your computer the updates pending will be installed and will be initialized at the first startup after that. If you're like me and switch off your PC at night and boot it again the next morning this is by far the best way to handle the update process without unwanted interruptions during the day.

If you're referring to the automatic restart side, this can be turned off if a user is logged on by making a change to the Registry.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean with automatic restart Shane, but I presume you mean that most of the time after the update you're required to restart your computer. Of course this is one downside of the default setting, but you're asked if you want to do that. More problematic is that sometimes an application you're using at the time of the update crashes because of the updating that's going on unannounced. I've had that happen a few times long ago when I still used XP. Needless to say I since then changed the setting for automatic updates as described before and immediately set it for Windows 7 as well when I got that with a new PC. :hehe:

I know what you mean Jan. The other week, I'd done a whole lot of work on my route, fell asleep and was startled, on awaking, to discover my system re-booting. Suffice to say automatic updates had installed and rebooted the system, closing Trainz and losing all my work! Damn!

There are people here that still use IE...tisk tisk. I haven't used IE in at least 10 years.

Generally I use Firefox and no script but there are some sites I use IE for since they use non standard Microsoft what evers. Microsoft.com for example works best with IE.

I also use Firefox with NoScript. Add Adblock Plus, and OptimizeGoogle and you won't have many problems. I also use IE Tab extension as needed for some sites. Very rarely do I have to use IE itself. The only problems I have are accidentally installing a stupid toolbar when upgrading certain programs.
