Harbors\Docks [Tane or TS19]

I am trying to customize the Maine Central Route in TS19. The harbor is a little modern for me so I am trying to remove the container handling. I can remove the 'seaport custom' asset with no problem. what I can't seem to master is how to create docks and piers. is there a tutorial anywhere that shows how to create them and merge them with the shore? I found the asset below in the shipyard in the route. But I can't get it to reveal itself or display what its name is. I can delete the assets on the thing but can't seem to do anything with the yellow asset circles (name?).

I would build from scratch if I could get a handle on the splines. Most of the retaining wall ones i have found are too short and I end up getting uneven ground in back of the wall spline or the spline is not touching the water. If there is a YouTube or thread that covers this please point me too it.

This is not an asset object but a spline object as it has yellow circles. There are several dock wall splines on the DLS.

Depending on what you are trying to accomplish, it can either be, really easy, or extremely hard, for instance, here is a (link) to my thread where I am currently working on a port.
I don't tend to worry too much about the walls being too short, as a lot of the time it isn't really all that noticeable, I could fix it easily if I found the time and could be bothered, but if you look at the screenshots in the linked thread, I'd say it's turning out well despite that.
One of the hardest parts about building ports and this goes for many things in Trainz, it tends to get repetitive and boring.
Another problem you will have is since you usually don't have any terrain at the right level on the edge of the dock walls, you will find that it will take a long time to get objects and splines in the right places or at the right heights.
Also depending on the look that you are going for, you have to consider if it looks realistic or not, and whether everything you have placed makes sense where it is, especially with the amount of clutter that there is and general stuff that is going on around ports and harbours in the real world.

thx Mega. I replied n your thread with a couple of questions. Looks like a you are off to a nice looking route.

Lonnie,

Take a look at these assets here:

<kuid2:193038:39024:1> SG Kaimauer SK
<kuid2:193038:39032:1> SG Kaimauer klein ST
<kuid2:193038:39025:1> SG Kaimauer ZK
<kuid2:193038:39033:1> SG Kaimauer klein ZT
<kuid2:193038:39005:1> SG Kaimauer SP
<kuid2:193038:39019:1> SG Kaimauer ST
<kuid2:193038:39018:1> SG Kaimauer ZT
<kuid2:193038:39002:1> SG Kaimauer ZP

They are platforms, I think, but are used by many people as wharves and docks. They are fairly thick splines and will fill in the terrain edge nicely. All you need to add then is track and bollards if you want.

 Thank you Gentleman for the Asset list and other info on Wharf's and Docks. It will help me in creating something later on.............

Update: Thank you for additional Information and Tips.....

@Normhart for your Dock Picture, that gave me some ideas on how I might want to do some Docks......

@solagon downloaded some Dock items, and also found some cool fencing for my European Routes that would be great deco...Like his Fences...Etc.........

 Everything I downloaded from his Assets, installed on T:ANE, not one single error, as I always check my "OPEN FOR EDITING" and "TODAY" filters in Content Manager, it's a habit since there are times when your downloading several Assets, and I guess Trainz gets behind and doesn't finish closing them, I also do a 'DATABASE REBUILD" to index the new ASSETs in Trainz, really helps me when I got into Surveyor or Drive mode and don't have to wait on swirling Tire sign.........

I checked out 3 of those kuids as I have a port to do at some stage. ALL have "unknown assets" so I won't bother. I have enough trouble with items that are faulty and don't work in TANE. Pity cause they could have been useful, but I'll keep looking.

These items are available on the DLS. You may need to use the White Pages and check all versions including TRS2004. These assets work anyway even though they are TRS2004

thanks for all the help. At the risk of being call Capt. Obvious, I figured out something that might be helpful to anyone building a dock. One of the issues i was having was getting the shore to be even both in height and alignment. I notice when I was painting the base ground cover in that you usually turn off the vertical setting of the copy so you only copy the texture. copy seems to always lay down a rectangle. I had an idea. I copied a flat, rectangular section of the map. Then started pasting it along the shore. I got a perfectly straight edge that is just the right height to accept the docks/piers splines for a harbor! Many of the expert route architects probably do this without thinking about it, but I thought it might be helpful to any noobs like me.

Lonnie,

You have one up on me there with that straight edge!

That's a good trick that you can add to the tips and tricks in Surveyor thread (sticky) at the top of the forum.
