Happy 85th Birthday...Queen Elizabeth

:D Some of us are having fun while agreeing to disagree.

Don't want to see a bun fight happen that's all. As long as we're happy to agree to our disagreement, all is well. Now, more tea? Some battenburg?

Domsarto hit the nail on the head. There's no way the Windsors can be mentioned without inciting strong opinion. That is particularly so, across the Irish Sea.

The english can keep their german royal family.
queen = royalty = politics

I for one will not be given a cead mile failte to her
It's very sad because, whatever the faults of Great Britain in years gone by, the blame cannot be laid at the door of Her Britannic Majesty or any one of her family that is alive today - a bit like blaming today's people for the dreadful slave trade.

Surely it's time to forgive and forget and move onwards and upwards?

Well I live in Scotland and there are a lot of Monarchists up here too although perhaps usually a bit more less ostentatious about it.

Don't see why the Irish should be miffed at all about HM visiting. We have had their President here on the mainland and in N. Ireland without any fuss so it should be the same in return. Didn't hear any noises form Irish folk about their Head of State coming here?? We have also helped Ireland twice. Both in the general EEC financial moneypot bailout and seperately we are giving them what is it 7 or 8 billion pounds of a loan? The progress in Irish Rail has been due to Europe and we are big contributor so wee countries like Ireland got more out than we did thanks to us again! Have been a frequent Ulster visitor over the years and visited Southern Ireland twice and found the people in general reasonable and had an aunt that came from Eire as well. A minority view should not be allowed to overshadow things we do live in a modern world. A wee bit of fairness is needed here!

It does not matter if it is a "minority view" or not.

A percentage of the populations of Eire, Scotland & Wales.

Have these opinions about the english monarchy and government.

We are just as entitled to them as the most rampant monarchist.

IKB.

Dont see why the Royals have to force everything they do on everyone else. She has a party & you have to watch. Then next week the kids get married & every TV channel is showing it all day long.Looks like a movie night from the video shop. The queer only rates second place.

I say B.O.L.L.O.C.K.S. to the Royals but what the hell does a good looking girl like Kate Middleton see in a goofy looking twit like William any way.

I have no time for any of the royals, never have, and it's nothing to do with where I'm from.

I'm sure it's true that a larger percentage of Wales, Scotland and Ireland have no interest in them compared to England, but do people really think that all the English love the royals?
I know plenty of people who are English, and most of them feel the same way as me.

And this wedding nonsense is beyond a joke.
The BBC produce some good programming, but I'm not sure how many more of those vomit-inducing, sycophantic ads for the wedding I can take. :udrool:

I've nothing against an old dear celebrating her 85th birthday though.

Smiley.

What we hear in the USA is that many people in the UK are going on the extended holiday that was given for the wedding.

News here also says that people in UK do not show as much interest in the wedding as "some" people here in the USA.

The news is saying that we need to wake up Friday morning a 4 AM EDST.... to watch the show. I will pass on that, thanks.

Regards to all,

Regards to all,

No holiday for me, just another normal working day.

The day has been declared as a 'Bank Holiday' and as such the finance sector workers i.e. 'The City' will get a holiday, the rest of us will have to work to support that holiday for them!

Me likewise - however, I chose to work at a major airport for a major airline and I enjoy the travel benefits and privileges that gives me so I'm not going to complain about it!

Absolutely 100% agree young Smiley, it's obvious that nothing else has happened in the world for the last few months, the BBC, ITV and Sky have gone so overboard on this it doesn't seem that anything else matters in life.
The taxpayers all over the country have had to fork out millions to pay for this lavish day for 2 unknowns, we were forced into having yet another unpaid day off along with those over the Easter holiday, and Bank Holiday MayDay, which will cost me something in the region of approx. 400-450 pounds, yet, some will have to carry on working regardless however, with no lieu day off added to their leave entitlement, and we'll have exactly the same performance when Prince Harry gets married in the future. Is there any wonder that the majority of us are miffed with this wedding.

Cheerz. ex-railwayman.
