GTX 980 slow in TS10

For some reason, TS10 is having jaggey issues with my GTX 980 (not-so-smooth framerates), while in other games, it's fine (100fps+). I tried re-installing drivers, that didn't seem to help, what do I do to fix this?

What are the specifications for the rest of your system as it is possible there may be a bottleneck elsewhere.

May I ask what your previous card was and the experience you had with it? If it was fine then we could isolate the issue to the 980 and not some other piece of hardware.

See if you have Manage 3D Settings, set for Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration = Single display performance mode. Also the Dual Xeon is not that good for gaming.

Also make sure you're not running by default in Open/GL. The latest NVidia cards, I have the GTX780Ti, don't seem to run well in Open/GL anymore.

dual Xeons? Really? That a server or a desktop? Absolutely make sure you have the LATEST drivers, as I have a single GTX 980 (eVGA SC AC 2.0) and purrs like a kitten, runs Roy's CPR routes silky smooth.

I even installed the latest drivers and it shows no improvement or whatsoever. Maybe it's still adapted to settings when I had GTX 650Ti Boost.

When you swapped the video cards, did you make sure to uninstall the previous drivers and installation? If not, you can download a driver cleaner. Then put in the new card's driver and software. Which brand of GTX 980 did you acquire?

maybe something else. If you try to install Trainz without updates or patching, does it work fine, again?

Keep in mind that TS2010 was never a super, super performer. TS12, with all its bugs is much better at handling graphics. Trainz in general is also performance dependent upon how optimized the content is. Some assets will load and cause even your super workstation, not unlike my bro's machine by the way, to stutter, while other content will load up and run well.

With my GTX780Ti, I am seeing a consistent 60fps running TS12 in windowed mode with some bursts up to 100fps, maybe a bit more, may be a bit less, in non-built up locations.

Try the latest drivers from NVidia. They were released on December 23rd. Malc, (Clam1952), has reported better performance in TANE with them. They may work well for you as well in TS2010.

Yes...OpenGL is working a lot better with the new ones...at least on my computer.

I'm running 2009, 2010, 2012 and TANE pre-release on my Core i5-4440 Dell with a GT640 card. 2010 runs the worst of the lot and I don't pay it much attention now that I've got the Avery-Drexel route operating in 2012. 2012 runs almost as smoothly as 2009. Asset issues are the main concern but the assets are gradually being updated for 12. My suggestion would be to go to 12 and see how that works for you. Has most of the same routes as 10, but with some sessions installed. It's available with 10 on a duo DVD for < $20 US at our local office suppliers.

:B~)
